Coat collection

Brownie Troop 8557 is collecting clean, reusable coats and jackets to assist the One Warm Coat community service effort. Coats of all shapes and sizes are welcome and children's sizes are most needed. Bring clean, reusable coats and jackets to Wal-Mart from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 23. All donated coats will be given to the Child Advocacy Center, the Haven and the Salvation Army for distribution to the community in need.

Alabama vs. Florida

Army recruiters from Alabama will vie against the recruiters from the Florida panhandle in a hotly contested flag football game, at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 20 at D.F. Anderson Stadium on the campus of Thomasville High School. Half-time show will be a battle of the bands featuring local high school bands. For ticket information call Sfc. Retired educators meeting

The Clarke County Education Retirees Association will meet at 11:45 a.m., Nov. 20, at New Faith Baptist Church in Coffeeville. All members, potential members and associate members are urged to attend.

Old school house benefit

The Nanafalia Community Association will be selling Brunswick stew at the Old Nanafalia School House in Nanafalia on Saturday, Nov. 22. Stew will be sold by the gallon for $25 and by the quart for $6.25. To call and order, call Tammy at 334-736-4300, or Sue at 334-736-4361. Pick up will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

FFA meat sale

Thomasville High School Future Farmers of America will host its annual meat sale. The money raised helps to fund field trips and buy materials such as wood and metal for class projects. To place an order call Mr. Tate at Thomasville High

Peterman Station festival

Peterman Station will hold its 25th annual arts and crafts festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 22, the Saturday before Thanksgiving. More than 100 booths will be filled with arts and crafts of all types. Entertainment is planned throughout the day. Down home foods including collards, Brunswick stew, cornbread, hamburgers, Polish sausages, hot dogs, drinks, barbecue sandwiches, homemade baked good, etc., will be served. 12x12 booths rent for $45 and $50 with electricity. VFW meeting

VFW Post 5106 and its ladies auxiliary will have their regular monthly meetings at 7 p.m. All members are invited to attend.

Hunter appreciation day

The 13th annual Hunter Appreciation Day Festival will be held Saturday, Nov. 29, in historic downtown Pine Apple, beginning at 9 a.m. Included will be arts and crafts, a buck contest, antique car show, live entertainment, a parade beginning at noon. At 7 p.m. prize money will be awarded for the winners of the big buck contest with the $500 being awarded to the hunter with the biggest buck. Jewelry sale

The annual Masquerade $5 Jewelry Sale will be held from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 1-2 at the Southwest Alabama Medical Center and Thomasville Nursing Home. Cash, check and credit cards accepted. Proceeds benefit Southwest Alabama Medical Center.

Nutcracker

Arts Revive, in conjunction with the Alabama State Council of the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts, will present Montgomery Ballet's The Nutcracker, at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 4, at Pickard Auditorium, 400 Washington Street in Selma. The cast will include professional dancers from the Montgomery Ballet and ballet students from the Selma area.
