AREA CALENDAR The Thomasville Recreation Department will hold registration for the city league basketball program at the new recreation office, 2285 Bashi Road, formerly the Lower Dixie Timber building Thursday, Jan. 10 and Friday, Jan. 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; and again on Saturday, Jan. 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The program is for boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 14, with the child being 7 on or before March 1, 2008, and no older than 14 on or before March 1, 2008. Rural Heritage Center announces plans for casting call Try-outs for the cast for the comedy, "Dearly Departed" are scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 12, from 12:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m., at the Rural Heritage Center in Thomaston. Directors Nell and Bill Richardson will be back to conduct try-outs and direct the comedy, which is scheduled for June 5-7. Both men and women, ages 18 and up are invited to try out for parts. Medical fund A medical fund for cancer surgery and treatment has been opened at First United Security Bank for Phyliss and Eric Leeton Sr. He is out of work and facing huge medical expenses. Donations are tax deductible. Joshua Hill memorial fund A fund has been set up for the family of Joshua Wayne Hill of Thomasville who was killed in a vehicle accident. Memorials may be made to Sweet Water State Bank for the Joshua Hill Children's Trust Fund. ANON Meets AL-ANON meets every Thursday night at 6:30 at Pineview Baptist Church (enter door at Moore Street entrance behind church). For more information call 636-9985. Story hour at the library The Thomasville Public Library has openings in the story hour programs for threeyear olds and in the K-fourth grade class. Three-year olds' (Reading Bees) story hour is held each Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The K-fourth graders (Dragonflies) meet from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., each Tuesday. These programs require registration, so anyone interested is asked to come by the library. Homework assignments Thomasville Middle School and Thomasville High School homework assignments are posted by all teachers each week. They are published by 4 p.m. every Monday for that week.
