The ASWA released its 2007 All-State Football selections this past week including a dozen top players from across the state that were designated as the ASWA Super 12. Included in that elite group was Sweet Water senior running back Anthony Landrum. It marked the second time in as many years that he was awarded this special honor.

Landrum (6'1", 200) was one of four running backs named to the list of 12. Others included: senior Justin Albert, Prattville (5'9", 175); senior Justin Rogers, Vestavia Hills (5'9", 175); and junior Tim Simon, Cordova (6'2", 205). There were also four quarterbacks in the top 12 including: junior A. J. McCarron, St. Paul's (6'4", 185); senior Barrett Trotter, Briarwood (6'2", 215); senior Jeremy Williams, Tuscaloosa Central (6'0", 200); and senior Jeremy Yates, Colbert Heights (6'1", 180). The final four in the group were: senior DL William Green, Spain Park (6'4", 215); senior WR/TE Julio Jones, Foley (6'4", 218); senior LB Jerrell Harris, Gadsden City (6'4", 210); and senior OL Tyler Love, Mountain Brook (6'8", 285).

Jones, who is considered by ESPN as the top prep prospect in the nation, was named Mr. Football in Alabama, becoming the first player from Baldwin County to ever receive the honor. Landrum was one of four in the group who won the back of the year honors in their classification. Joining him were Trotter in 6A, Williams in 4A, and Yates in 3A. Love who was selected as the 6A lineman of the year was the only lineman in the group to have won the honor.

Naturally Landrum was an All-State first team selection as a running back as well. Joining him on the 1A first team offense were two offensive linemen off the State Champion Bulldog squad, senior Wes Burnett (6'1", 190) and junior Tate Luker (6'4", 180). Over on the 1A first team defense the Bulldogs were represented by senior defensive lineman Nakia Dennis (6'2", 270) and senior defensive back Drew Luker (6'3", 180). Also on the 1A first team defensive unit from this area was senior linebacker Kaylos Pritchett (6'1", 205) from Marengo High School. For Landrum it was his fourth time to be selected as an All- State first team honoree while Burnett and Drew Luker made their second appearance as first teamers.

In the 4A classification the Thomasville Tigers, who were eliminated from the state playoffs in the semi-finals by eventual state champion Tuscaloosa Central, were represented on the first team by four players. On offense senior wide receiver Tysean Thompson (5'10", 155) was named as a first team selection. Over on defense three Tigers were among the fourteen selected including junior defensive back Alex Buford (6'0", 170); senior linebacker Jarrell Watters (6'1", 225); and senior linebacker Katrell Watters (6'0", 225). The 2007 selection marked the second time that both Buford and Katrell Watters received first team honors.

In the honorable mention category the Bulldogs were represented in 1A by sophomore linebacker Delano Brewer, junior defensive back Antonio Landrum, and senior defensive lineman Tyrice Lockett.

In 4A Thomasville's senior running back Roya Campbell was listed as an honorable mention selection.
