Sims, Gates ceremony held

Mr. and Mrs. William Cory Gates
A worship service celebrating the union of Miss Anna Katherine Sims to Mr. William Cory Gates, began at 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 1, at Thomasville United Methodist Church. Rev. Phill Craddock performed the double-ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Danny Joe Sims of Thomasville. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sims of Pine Hill and the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gray of Thomasville.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dwayne Gates of Thomasville. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. James Presnall of Grove Hill and Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Gates of Thomasville.

Guests were greeted and registered by Mrs. Jennifer Weatherly.

Miss Caroline Bowers and Mr. Jackson Bowers welcomed guests inside the sanctuary and distributed wedding programs. Mrs. Leta Stephens served as wedding director.

Pianist, Mrs. Tammy Bedsole, provided an atmosphere of worship. Soloist Mrs. Britany Cahalin, sang "How Beautiful" as the grandparents and mothers were seated. Mrs. Heather Harvell, flutist accompanied by Ms. Kathryn Harper pianist played "The Lord's Prayer" during the ceremony.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a formal gown of sleek satin which featured a slight sweetheart neckline. The gown fell into a slim A-line silhouette. The back was beautifully flattered with a gentle "V" line and flowed into a chapel length train. Dramatic vine and floral embroidery with Swarovski crystals decorated the bodice and the train was finished with more of the same sparkling intricate detail. The bride also wore a fingertip veil with a headband featuring Swarovski crystals and Japanese pearls. She carried a French hand-tied bouquet of light pink roses finished with a pink satin ribbon.

The bride's matron of honor was her sister, Mrs. Noelle Morris of Thomasville. Bridesmaids were Miss Amanda Clark of Saraland, Mrs. Ellen Gates of Thomasville, Mrs. Kelly Tolbert of Brandon, Miss., Mrs. Suzanne Webb of Thomasville and Mrs. Jennifer Welch of Orange Beach.

Miss Maura Katherine Morris of Thomasville, niece of the bride, served as the flower girl.

Brother of the groom, Mr. Russell Gates of Thomasville, served as best man. Groomsmen were Mr. Lee Baugh of Saraland, Mr. John Gates of Thomasville, Mr. Canaan Hare of Grove Hill, Mr. Gene Sheffield of Grove Hill and Mr. Chase Williams of Linden.

Nephew of the groom, Master Anderson Gates of Thomasville, was the ring bearer.

Ushers were Mr. Jason Gates of Grove Hill, Mr. Chris Hodge of Franklin and Mr. Ken Morris of Thomasville.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Pineview Country Club.

The bride's table held a fourtiered monogrammed cake on a round, silver pedestal, topped with light pink roses. Serving at the bride's table were Rachel Goodrich of Daphne and Ashley Wright of Birmingham, cousins of the bride.

The groom's table held a three-tiered chocolate cake on a square silver pedestal. Serving for the groom were Mrs. Susan Fendley of Selma and Miss Kelly Gates of Thomasville, cousins of the groom.

During the reception, the music was provided by the band, Grits-n-Pieces.

Miss Taylor Goodrich of Daphne, cousin of the bride, handed out wedding favors.

As the bride and groom left they were showered in pink rose petals. After a honeymoon trip to Savannah, Ga., the couple resides in Thomasville.
