Rhodes marches in Rose Parade

Alex Rhodes, a 14-year old ninth grader at Niceville (Fla.) High School and the granddaughter of Richard and Roselyn Martindale of Thomasville, marched along with her band, The Niceville High School Eagle Pride Band in this year's Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif., on New Year's Day.

The band marches 290 members and was selected as one of seven bands nationwide to march in the 2008 parade.

Alex's mother, Rhonda Rhodes and her grandmother Roselyn Martindale went along as band booster parents and chaperones. They left on Dec. 28 and will return on Jan. 8. The trip included a tour of Los Angeles and Hollywood, dinner aboard the ship The Queen Mary, a Broadway play "Wicked," the San Diego Zoo, Knotts Berry Farm, a tour of the float barns to see the finishing touches on the floats and reserved seating along Colorado Blvd. for the famed Rose Bowl Parade.

Alex is the daughter of Scott and Rhonda Rhodes of Eglin AFB in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.
