Scholarship application

The Clarke County Soil and Water Conservation District is now accepting applications for a $500 scholarship sponsored by the Alabama Conservation District Employees Association. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, a high school senior and living in the state of Alabama. Applications are available at most high school counselors' offices or may be picked up at the district office at 3100 Highway 43, Suite B, in Jackson. Auditions being held

Ballet and Theatre Arts Performing Companies (BTAPC), 253 College Street in Gilbertown, will be holding auditions for an upcoming play "The Foreigner" from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 13. The show has a cast of five men and two women. Come prepared to read for the audition on Sunday. Relaxed auditions are held so come on out and get involved in this wonderful play. Youth symphony concert

The Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra will be in concert at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 13, at the Clarke County High School auditorium in Grove Hill. In the free hour-long concert, the MSYO will perform Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man, Saint-Saens' Danse Macabre, Strauss' Overture to Die Fledermaus, plus many more classical works for full orchestra. Orchestra members are middle school and high school students from Baldwin and Mobile counties and from neighboring counties in Mississippi and Florida. City league basketball registration

The Thomasville Recreation Department will hold registration for the city league basketball program at the new recreation office, 2285 Bashi Road, formerly the Lower Dixie Timber building Thursday, Jan. 10 and Friday, Jan. 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; and again on Saturday, Jan. 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The program is for boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 14, with the child being 7 on or before March 1, 2008, and no older than 14 on or before March 1, 2008. Rural Heritage Center announces plans for casting call

Try-outs for the cast for the comedy, "Dearly Departed" are scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 12, from 12:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m., at the Rural Heritage Center in Thomaston. Directors Nell and Bill Richardson will be back to conduct try-outs and direct the comedy, which is scheduled for June 5-7. Both men and women, ages 18 and up are invited to try out for parts. Medical fund

A medical fund for cancer surgery and treatment has been opened at First United Security Bank for Phyliss and Eric Leeton Sr. He is out of work and facing huge medical expenses. Donations are tax deductible.

Joshua Hill memorial fund

A fund has been set up for the family of Joshua Wayne Hill of Thomasville who was killed in a vehicle accident. Memorials may be made to Sweet Water State Bank for the Joshua Hill Children's Trust Fund.

ANON Meets

AL-ANON meets every Thursday night at 6:30 at Pineview Baptist Church (enter door at Moore Street entrance behind church). For more information call 636-9985.

Story hour at the library

The Thomasville Public Library has openings in the story hour programs for threeyear olds and in the K-fourth grade class. Three-year olds' (Reading Bees) story hour is held each Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The K-fourth graders (Dragonflies) meet from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., each Tuesday. These programs require registration, so anyone interested is asked to come by the library.

Homework assignments

Thomasville Middle School and Thomasville High School homework assignments are posted by all teachers each week. They are published by 4 p.m. every Monday for that week.
