OBITUARIES Lura Vance Drinkard James, 90, of Fulton, died Thursday, January 3, 2008, at Southwest Alabama Medical Center in Thomasville. Mrs. James was born Nov. 5, 1917, in Clarke County. She was a homemaker and was a member of First Baptist Church Fulton. The funeral was held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, at First Baptist Church Fulton with the Rev. John Copeland and the Rev. Warren Shewmake officiating. Burial was in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Thomasville. Mrs. James is survived by three sons, James R. (Imogene) Drinkard of Fulton, Robert E. (Sandra) James of Dothan and Donald J. (Sharon) James of Fulton; five daughters, Mary E. (Bennie) Pugh of Jackson, Patsy J. (Edward) Fisher of Pensacola, Fla., Emma J. (Billy) Criswell of Fulton, Mildred R. (Warren) Shewmake of Fulton and Judy (Jim) Thompson of Vineland; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-greatgrandchild. Mrs. James was preceded in death by her husband, Dannie Lee James; and one daughter, Edna Earl James. Pallbearers were Rickey James, Todd Pugh, Eddie Fisher Jr., Lynn Criswell, Johnny Criswell, Shawn James, Jimmy Thompson and Kenny Drinkard. Honorary pallbearers were Curtis James, Perry James, Danny James, Neal James, Tony Pugh, Troy Pugh, Jeff Shewmake and James Shewmake. O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville directed. Beatty Wynn Morgan Sr. Beatty Wynn Morgan Sr., 73, of Thomasville, died Wednesday, January 2, 2008, at Garfield Memorial Hospital in Panguitch, Utah. Mr. Morgan was born March 3, 1934 in Sunny South. He was a member of Sunny South Baptist Church and VFW Post No. 5106 in Thomasville. He was a truck driver. The funeral was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 8, at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville with the Rev. Warren Huggins and the Rev. Rex Jackson officiating. Burial was in Sunny South Baptist Church Cemetery in Sunny South. Mr. Morgan is survived by his wife Shirley Knight Morgan of Thomasville; three sons, Beatty Wynn Morgan Jr. of Manchester, Mo., Thomas Wayne Morgan of Covington, La. and Robert Shane Morgan of Thomasville; one daughter, Karen Grochowski of Sweet Water; and 16 grandchildren. Pallbearers were Alabama State Troopers. Honorary pallbearers were members of VFW Post 5106. Agnes Overstreet Ward Agnes Overstreet Ward, 83, of Granbury, Texas, died January 4, 2008, in a Ft. Worth, Texas hospital after a long illness. Mrs. Ward, a long-time resident of Pensacola, was born Sept. 18, 1924 in Thomasville. For many years she was an administrator at the Escambia County Health Department, retiring in 1991. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. Mrs. Ward enjoyed membership in the Ensley Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, the Daughters of the Nile, and the Women's Club in Pensacola. She was also active in the community until moving to Granbury, Texas in 2006. The funeral was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Christ Episcopal Church with Bishop Bob Jones officiating. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery in Pensacola. Mrs. Ward is survived by one daughter, Donna (Gregory) Engel of Granbury, Texas; two sons, Michael (Gina) Ward of Lakeland, Fla. and Daniel Ward of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one brother, John (Winifred) Overstreet of Thomasville; three grandchildren, Valerie (Alex) Downing of Richmond, Va., Donald (Connie) Ozburn of Yucca Valley, Calif. and Timothy (Kelly) Engel of Ft. Worth, Texas; and three greatgrandchildren, Nicholas Olson, Jadah and Vanessa Ozburn. Mrs. Ward was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Celestine Ward; her parents, Solon Floyd and Eva Estelle Overstreet of Thomasville; and one sister, Mary Lou Willis of Thomasville. Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel in Pensacola directed. Shirley Shields Wright Shirley Shields Wright, 72, of Grove Hill, died Wednesday, January 2, 2008. Mrs. Wright was born Sept. 29, 1935. She was a native of Allen and a resident of Grove Hill. She was a member of Grove Hill Baptist Church where she was active in the WMU and church choir. She was secretary to the executive committee of the Alabama Baptist State Convention, former president of the Mission Belles, served as a substitute teacher at Clarke County High School for more than 25 years and was a member of North Allen Homemakers Club. Mrs. Wright graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas with a masters of religious education degree; Blue Mountain College in Mississippi; and from Murphy High School in Mobile. The funeral was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, at Grove Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Al Dykeman officiating. Burial was in Magnolia Lawn Cemetery in Grove Hill. Mrs. Wright is survived by her husband, Rev. Jack Wright Jr. of Grove Hill; three daughters, Kathy Wright Pickard of Grove Hill and Diane Wright Horton and Carol Leigh Wright, both of Birmingham; one son, Jack Russell Wright III of Grove Hill; one sister, Elizabeth Sharpe of Mobile; and eight grandchildren. Pallbearers were Benjamin Pickard, Russ Wright, Charles Bouler, Larry Bagley, Doug Ramsay, Eddie Slayton, Tracey Newton and Dale Harris.
