They're coming
Yes, it's Girl Scout cookie selling time, and this year, the kids have a new product to temp buyers, the Lemon Chalet. All the old favorites, Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs and all the other classics will still be available as well. Last year, Brownie Troop 57 sold an astounding 8,000 boxes of the cookies, the most in the Deep South region, according to troop leader Martha Gramelspacher. Kristen Carter sold more than 800 boxes herself. She doesn't expect her troop to do quite as well this year, but that's because there are more troops in the Thomasville area. The Girl Scout program in Thomasville has outgrown a single troop and and there are now seven troops vying for cookie sales. A group of Brownies came to the office of The Thomasville Times to talk about the cookie sale, and while a little shy, all said they were excited to be out selling the treats again. Sales start next week. Money from the cookies helps fund Girl Scout activities throughout the year.
In 2007, the Brownies had a busy year of activities including food drives for the Salvation Army, attending the International Festival in Mobile, camping, attended city council meeting, collected and mailed care packages to soldiers overseas with the Clarke Baptist Association, made Veteran's Day cards for local veterans and more.
