Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra to perform

Mobile Symphony Youth will once again bring the magic of live orchestral music to the Clarke County community at the Clarke County High School Sage Auditorium in an afternoon concert, Sunday, Jan. 13 at 2:30 p.m. under the direction of Orland Thomas.

Thomas is a graduate of the University of Alabama where he was a member of the Million Dollar Band. His successful band programs led to his selection as Fine Arts Administrator for the Mobile County Public School System. He has built the Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra's programs to a full orchestra of 50 strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion players.

In an hour-long concert, the MSYO will perform Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man, Saint-Saens' Danse Macabre, Strauss' Overture to Die Fledermaus, plus many more classical works for full orchestra.

The members of the Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra are middle-school and high school students from Baldwin and Mobile Counties and from neighboring counties in Mississippi and Florida. They rehearse weekly and perform for audiences throughout South Alabama.

The concert is open to the public free of charge, and is made possible through the generosity and support of the Community Study Club of Grove Hill, Four Seasons Garden Club of Jackson, Southern Magnolia Study Club of Grove Hill, The Thomasville Worthwhile Club, Junior Women's League of Jackson and Thomasville Research Club.

Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra, a part of the education programs of Mobile Symphony, is funded in part by grants from the City of Mobile and the Mobile County Commission. For more information contact Sarah Wright, Education Director, Mobile Symphony at 251-432-2064 or sarah@mobilesynmphony.org.
