LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Thank our school board

Dear Editor:

Thomasville City Schools will join school systems throughout the state to salute their local education leaders during Alabama's 15th annual School Board Member Recognition Month in January.

The commemorative month is designed to recognize the contributions made by Alabama's more than 800 local school board members, including the members of the Thomasville City Board of Education, who are charged with governing public education under state law.

Alabama school board members are chosen by their communities through election or appointment to manage local schools. They oversee multimillion-dollar budgets, which fund education programs for more than 743,364 students in 1,541 schools. Their personnel decisions affect 49,574 teachers, 3,308 administrators and 37,431 support workers.

These volunteer leaders also are responsible for formulating school system policy, approving curricula, maintaining school facilities and adhering to state and federal education law. Legal concerns and the complexities of school finance, including budgeting and taxation, require them to spend many hours in board training programs and personal study to enhance their understanding of these issues.

Our deepest appreciation is extended to the dedicated men and women who make it possible for local citizens to participate in education in our community. We salute the public servants of the Thomasville City School System whose commitment and civic responsibility make local control of public schools in our community possible. The members of the Thomasville City Board of Education are: Mrs. Karen Bradford, president, Mr. Kevin Smoker, vice-president, Mr. Asa Charleston, Mr. Marshall Pritchett and Mrs. Beverly Walker.

Please join us by saying thanks to our school board members during Alabama's 15th School Board Member Recognition Month.
Dr. Vic Adkison
Superintendent of Education
Thomasville City Schools

Thanks to those who responded

Dear Editor:

We would like to thank everyone for the thoughts and prayers since our recent loss on December 23rd. We also would like to say special "thank you" to the Thomasville Fire Department and Thomasville Police Department for all of the hard work and effort given to save our lives and our home. We know that without them, it would not have been possible. If not for your dedication and commitment to what you do, we would have, at the very least, lost everything with no hope of recovering. We appreciate Lifeline Paramedics for being there and staying for the entire time, to look after anyone who may have needed assistance.

There are no words to express our gratitude to everyone who come by, called and helped our family on Christmas Eve to help save our belonging as best we could. We know that it was a sacrifice to be away from your families on such an important day, but you gave our family the best Christmas we ever could have. We also want to thank our church family at Springfield Methodist Protestant Church and Bro. Mark Lambert for the unending support and love you have given our family, turning a tragedy into a blessing.

May God bless each and every one you and be with you always.

Scott, Michelle and Hunter Mayton
