New series underway at archives department

The Alabama Department of Archives and History will offer a new series of program to help people learn more about resources and serves of the department. "Tips, Tools and Treasures" will introduce researchers to the vast array of research materials available at the archives and will provide tips on how to make best use of the department services.

Archives staff will present these programs the second Saturday of each month in 2008 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The programs are free and do not require pre-registration. All programs take place in the Alabama Power auditorium at the Alabama Department of Archives and History, 624 Washington Ave., Montgomery.

• Jan. 12 - Using the Archives On-Line Catalog, ADAHCAT

• Feb. 9 - Introduction to African-American Family History

• March 8 - An Introduction to Alabama Legislative Records

• April 12 - Photographs at the ADAH

• May 10 - Private Records Collections at the ADAH

• June 14 - Tips on Using Ancestry.com

• July 12 - Maps at the ADAH

• Aug. 9 - An Introduction to Alabama Local Government Records

• Sept. 13 - Research Treasures at ADAH

• Oct. 11 - An Introduction to Alabama State Publications

• Nov. 8 - Military Records at ADAH

• Dec. 13 - Using Alabama Newspaper for Research
