Indian artifact exhibit comes to Jackson One of the largest displays of privately owned artifacts in the Southeastern United States will be on display Sunday, Jan. 27 in Jackson. Artifacts ranging in age from 15,000 years to a few hundred years will be on display from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Jackson Community House at the Country Club on Vanity Park Drive. Twenty to 30 exhibitors will be displaying their collections including projectile points, pottery, axes (stone and iron), pipes, knives and many other items. The show, which is free of charge and open to the public, is sponsored by The Rebel State Archeological Society of Alabama, whose main goals are to preserve, conserve and display artifacts that have been found on the surface of the ground. Many of these artifacts would have been destroyed by agriculture practices, logging machinery or washed into the river to be lost forever. The society does not tolerate illegal digging. In fact, anyone convicted of illegal digging is automatically and permanently banned from the society.
The show will be hosted by Bimbo Kohen, president of The Rebel State Archeological Society of Alabama. For more information or have a collection you wish to display, contact Kohen at 251-542-9456 or email at bimbo@millry.net .
