Spiritual Reflections
So I sent Lansah to town to purchase the materials for us to put up some swings. We had picked out three likely limbs for our purpose, and had taken measurements. Eighteen inches wide, by 12 inches deep and two inches thick seemed like good measurements for the seats. I was thinking "Pine" which is lightweight. There is no "Pine" in Ghana. Lansah came back with Mahogany, $20 worth of, dense, heavy, knock a child out with one blow, beautiful, cut to specifications, Mahogany. Sometimes I am better at miss-communicating than at communicating. To make a long story short the swings are in the trees, there are six of them instead of three, and five of the seats are made out of doormats, which are made by a local blind man. The doormats are woven out of synthetic fibers that won't rot in the rainy season, or injure a child if they strike one. The sixth swing looks a bit more familiar to this old boy. Yes, it's a used tire on the end of a rope. Now the neatest thing took place after we finished hanging the swings. Children began to appear out of nowhere. In just a few minutes there were about 20 boys and girls climbing, swinging, and playing, under and in our trees. Reminds me of one of my favorite lines from a movie, "if you build it they will come." We may have to put up more swings. Peggy has already made plans about how we can share Jesus with the children that come to swing. Maybe we will call it a "Swing Ministry."
Jesus said "suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not for of such is the kingdom of Heaven," Matthew 19:14. Get in the "swing," share Jesus with a child, and I'll see you in church.
