Lady Tigers down Jackson to maintain hold on area lead
Great defense by the Lady Tigers proved to be the deciding point in the game. After trailing 16 - 11 in the first quarter the Thomasville squad went on a 12 - 2 run in the second period to take over the lead for good. Shelby Crawford and Tamara Robinson led Thomasville in scoring with 10 points each followed by Twarner Witherspoon with seven points. Kyera Rowe and Nicole Washington were next with six points apiece with Ashley Crawford adding two points and Candrea Welch and Kierra Westbrook chipping in one each to round out the scoring. Shelby Crawford was the leader on the boards with 14 rebounds giving her a double/double. Westbrook and Witherspoon were next pulling down five rebounds each. Robinson was the assist leader with four followed by Witherspoon with three. Over on defense Washington led the charge with four steals while Witherspoon had three. Unfortunately the Lady Tigers' road game against the McIntosh High School Lady Demons on Saturday, January 12, didn't turn out as well as Friday's action with Thomasville falling 55 - 42 to the girls from South Washington County. The Lady Tigers, playing without one of their starters had one of their poorest shooting nights hitting on only 28% of their shots from the floor. Leading Thomasville in scoring in the loss was Britney Stallworth with 10 points followed by Tamara Robinson and Kyera Rowe with nine points each and Nicole Washington with six. Desirea Bettis and Ashley Crawford added three points each to the total while Fran Witherspoon chipped in two. Kyera Rowe was the leader on the boards pulling down nine rebounds while Kierra Westbrook grabbed six. Robinson was the assist leader with four followed by Washington with two. On defense Robinson and Stallworth led the charge with two steals each.
Now with a season record of 6 - 4, the Lady Tigers were scheduled to continue on the road this week with games at Escambia County on Tuesday, January 15; at Monroe County on Friday, January 18 and Clarke County on Saturday, January 19.
