OBITUARIES Samuel Edward Barr Samuel Edward Barr, 89, of Mena, Ark., died Sunday, January 13, 2008, at Rich Mountain Nursing Home and Rehab in Mena. Mr. Barr was born Jan. 24, 1918 in Nanafalia. He was a retired rural mail carrier. The funeral was held at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 18, at Geneva Presbyterian Church in Sweet Water with the Rev. Scott Armstrong and the Rev. Sidney Hill officiating. Burial was in Geneva Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Mr. Barr is survived by two sons, Howard (Rowena) Barr of Mena, Ark., and Phillip (Gigi) Barr of Madison; one brother, Alfred (Sue) Barr of Nanafalia; one sister, Jackie Miller of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Barr was preceded in death by his first wife, Marguerite Barr; and by his second wife, Esther Barr. O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden directed. Bessie Swearingin Bush Bessie Swearingin Bush, 88, of Dayton, died Sunday, January 13, 2008, at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital in Demopolis. Mrs. Bush was born May 14, 1919 in Cowan, Tenn. She was a homemaker and was a member of Dayton United Methodist Church. The funeral was held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 16, at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden with the Rev. Dunford Cole and the Rev. George McKee officiating. Burial was at Dayton Cemetery in Dayton. Mrs. Bush is survived by her husband, Eugene Bush of Dayton; one daughter, Joyce Burrage of Dayton; two sons, Thomas C. Swearingin of Dayton and James Harley Swearingin of Cantonment, Fla.; one sister, Maude Soloman of Cowan, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Kathleen Renner Kathleen Renner, 77, of Spanish Fort, died Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope. Mrs. Renner was born Aug. 21, 1930 in Elba. She was retired from the city of Linden where she worked as the director of public housing. Mrs. Renner was a member of Linden United Methodist Church and a member of the Linden Quest Club. The funeral was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, at Linden United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Kendricks officiating. Burial was in Linden Memorial Park in Linden. Mrs. Renner is survived by her husband, Robert H. Renner of Spanish Fort; three sons, James S. (Nita) Renner of Linden, Robert H. (Tammy) Renner Jr. of Daphne and Andrew C. (Elizabeth) Renner of Demopolis; two daughters, Karen Renner (Lee) Hamilton of Spanish Fort and Tammy Renner (Mike) Moorer of Hobson; one son-in-law, Gary B. Thurman of Chipley, Fla.; three brothers, Lamar Ammons of Texas, William Hayes Ammons of Zion Chapel and Wendell Ray Ammons of New Brockton; one sister, Earlene Ammons Green of Elba; 13 grandchildren, Ashley R. William Herbert 'Billy' Sadler Sr. William Herbert "Billy" Sadler Sr., 88, of Grove Hill, died Saturday, January 12, 2008, at his home. Mr. Sadler was born July 5, 1919, in Caledonia, in Wilcox County. He was a member of Thomasville United Methodist Church and of Grove Hill United Methodist Church. He held numerous positions in the Thomasville United Methodist Church and served two terms on the Thomasville City Council and also served as Mayor Pro Tem. Mr. Sadler was a salesman and was a former trustee for the Thomasville City Schools. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. The funeral was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Grove Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Davis Rhodes officiating. Burial was in Whatley Cemetery in Whatley. Mr. Sadler is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Sadler of Grove Hill; two sons, William H. "Herb" (Barbara) Sadler of Dothan and Barry R. (Judy) Sadler of Eufaula; one daughterin law, Becky Sadler of Monroeville; one brother, Robert A Sadler of Montgom - ery; one sister, Margaret S. Grubbs of Montgomery; 11 grandchildren; and 20 greatgrandchildren. Mr. Sadler was preceded in death by two sons, George L. Sadler and Robert C. Sadler. Wilbon Gregory Sammons Wilbon Gregory Sammons, 75, of Melbourne, Fla., died Monday, January 14, 2008, in Melbourne. Mr. Sammons was born Nov. 2, 1932 in Linden. Following graduation from Linden High School in 1950, he served for three years in the Air Force. He and his wife moved to Melbourne in 1956 where he owned and operated several businesses for many years - Comet TV, Hunt's Used Auto Parts and the Trading Post. He enjoyed outdoor sports and was an avid hunter for many years. The funeral was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, at O'Bryant Funeral Home Chapel in Linden with the Rev. Daniel Gandy officiating. Burial was in New Octagon Cemetery. Mr. Sammons is survived by his wife, Shirley Sammons; one son, Gregory Sammons II; two daughters, Bonnie Yearty and Deanne Kelley; one sister, Johnna Rogers; four grandchildren, Heather Sammons, Tommy Yearty, Cameron Kelley II and Greg Sammons III; and his mother-in-law, Mary Trainham. Grace Stephens Tucker Grace Stephens Tucker, 76, of Linden, died Wednesday, January 16, 2008, at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital in Demopolis. Mrs. Tucker was born Aug. 11, 1931 in Dixons Mills. She was a retired elementary school teacher and was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Gallion. Graveside service was held at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 18, at Shiloh Cemetery in Dixons Mills with Paul Whitcomb officiating. Mrs. Tucker is survived by one son, Rosure Leon Tucker of Linden; one daughter, Micki McAlpine of Demopolis; one brother, Joe Stephens of Miller; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Westbrook was born Aug. 14, 1932 in Dothan. She was a former food service worker and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Pine Hill. The funeral was held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 20, at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomas - ville with the Rev. David Murray officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Pine Hill. Mrs. Westbrook is survived by one daughter, Dr. Rita F. Westbrook of Memphis, Tenn.; one son, William A. (Melinda) Westbrook of Pine Hill; three stepsons, Woodie Westbrook and Alton Westbrook, both of Brundidge and Leon Westbrook of Monroeville; one sister, Irene Brackin of Dothan; and three grandchildren, Wade Westbrook, Zane Westbrook and Paxton Westbrook. Mrs. Westbrook was preceded in death by her husband, Kimbrough Westbrook of Pine Hill. Pallbearers were Mike McGilberry, Larry Bedwell, Wendell Bedwell, Tyler Stephens, Gary Smith and Tommy Pope.
