Opportunities will still be around even in recession Certainly the implosion of the mortgage industry is sending large ripples throughout the rest of the economy, but what does that ultimately mean for us here in Thomasville? So far, Thomasville's economy has continued to grow, and there are no indications yet of that changing. A number of small businesses have closed in recent years, but there's seems be a new one waiting in the wings for each storefront that gets vacated. That means at the least that entrepreneurs see opportunity in our fair city. Soon the Louisiana-Pacific plant will go online and employ about 140 people in good paying jobs. Work will soon be starting in earnest on the ThyssenKrupp plant. And although it's a good ways away from Thomasville. It's entirely possible that we will see things coming from that project. In the seminal job-hunting book What Color is Your Parachute, the author basically states that even in the worst of economies, companies still need people to do the work, and that means that opportunities for finding new work or changing careers are still available to those willing to pursue them.
So too, even if the national economy goes into a recession there can still be opportunities for growth here in Thomasville. But, like the job hunter, we'll have to work for them.
