Say so long to the snow
Arthur McLean
Well, maybe my days of a political prognosticator aren't over yet. Just last week I wrote about Fred Thompson's campaign, or lack thereof and how things weren't going anywhere.

Just this week, Thompson announced his withdrawal from the Republican primary. So maybe my track record's not so bad. Although, I think nearly anyone would have a problem determining that.

More funny side effects

Not long ago I also wrote about all the crazy side effects of some of these modern drugs on the market. Just this week I heard what has to be the funniest side effect I've yet heard. The ad for a particular drug says one side effect is an increased urge to gamble.

Now, gambling addiction is certainly no laughing matter, but a drug's side effect that makes you gamble more? Man, I bet casinos would love to put that stuff in the water! You know, you really can't make up stuff like this.

Who's economy are we really helping?

Being in the midst of an presidential election year and looking at an economic slowdown, politicians in Washington are stepping all over themselves to get some sort of economic stimulus package rolled out that would likely include some sort of tax rebate or something to the average Joe.

And let me tell you, I'm all for it. Bridgett and I have a wedding and honeymoon to pay for after all. But how many of us would wind up spending that money on stuff that's made overseas and turns into salaries for folks who are never going to be paying mortgages and taxes, buying cars and washers and dryers here in the states? I'm just going to guess a whole big bunch of it.

Good bye snow

Is there anything more fun, more miserable, more exciting and more frustrating all in one than a snow day in the deep south?

Kids got out and had snowball fights and the adults got in and helped with making snowmen. A good number of folks just kind of took the day off and spent it inside relaxing.

Yankees laugh at us when we shut down for an inch of snow, but hey, we usually get ice with that snow. And we warm up a lot faster than they do.

And I don't know why, but it always strikes me as a little sad when you see those last little bits of snow hanging on in the shady spots. You know it's only a matter of time before they're gone, and we won't likely have another snow day for a good long while. So I hope you were able to enjoy it while it was here.
