Call for help if you lose your way
Pat Ozment Jr. IMB Missionary to Ghana
Before we came to Ghana we were told that if we died on the mission field, it would most likely be as the result of an auto accident. After our initial road trip of 400 miles, which took about 13 and a-half hours, I began to understand the reasoning behind that statement.

We can tell you that the roads here are bad, but you won't understand.

The road from Accra to Tamale is the main highway running the length of the nation of Ghana from north to south. Every kind of vehicle imaginable travels this road, from overloaded 18-wheelers to mopeds.

The side of the road is littered with the remains of wrecked trucks and cars. They are stripped of everything of value, pushed off the road, and abandoned.

The semis carry as much tied on top of their trailers as they have inside of them. This abuse and a lack of funds for road repair are a bad combination.

Because of the danger, and some recent experiences, Mr. Lansah now drives on trips that we make out of town.

When we set out for Accra after Christmas, he was at the wheel and I was ridding shotgun. We have an extended cab so Peggy was able to ride inside too.

It was nice to be able to look at the sights instead of fighting the wheel.

When we neared Accra there was major roadwork under way, and we could not go the only way we knew.

After several turns that did not turn out, I decided to do something I'd never do if I were driving. I made a call on my cell phone, and asked for directions. My call was to a young Ghanaian named Fusheni who works at the Baptist Guest House. He was out running errands.

I said, "Fusheni we are lost, can you help us?"

He said, "Stop where you are. I see you."

Sometimes life is like a long trip on bad roads we aren't familiar with. Just remember that you can always call on Jesus, and He will have you in sight.

Lost your way? Give Him a call and I'll see you in church.
