The Thomasville High School Lady Tiger basketball team picked up a 33 - 25 win over the Jackson High School Lady Aggies on Tuesday, January 22, to lay claim to the 4A Area I title. Playing before an approving home crowd, the Thomasville Ladies rode their aggressive and tenacious defense to victory. With the win, they finished area play with a perfect 6 - 0 mark and improved their season record to 9 - 4.

In the game, Kierra Westbrook led the Thomasville scoring attack with 12 points followed by Shelby Crawford and Nicole Washington with six points each. Tamara Robinson added five points to the cause and Twarner Witherspoon chipped in four points. Westbrook was the leader on the boards as well pulling down six rebounds while Kyera Rowe grabbed five and Shelby Crawford and Twarner Witherspoon picked up four apiece. Rowe was the team's assist leader with two. On defense Washington led the charge with two steals.

After their victory Tuesday, the Lady Tigers found themselves matched up with the Lady Aggies again on Friday, January 25, in the first round of the Clarke County Tournament being played at Clarke County High School in Grove Hill. Just as they had done on Tuesday, the Lady Tigers got the best of the Lady Aggies defeating them 41 - 27 this time. The win upped their season record to 10 - 4 and a spot in the finals of the tournament on Saturday night.

Tamara Robinson had the hot hand for Thomasville in this match-up pouring in 15 points. Shelby Crawford was next with seven points followed by Kyera Rowe and Twarner Witherspoon with four points each. The trio of Nicole Washington, Candrea Welch, and Kierra Westbrook all contributed three points to the cause while Fran Witherspoon picked up two. On the boards Rowe and Westbrook were the Lady Tiger stalwarts grabbing four rebounds each.

Washington set the pace in the assist area with four while Robinson and Westbrook added two each. Over on defense Washington was the leader again with four steals while Twarner Witherspoon had two take aways.

Saturday night January 26, the Lady Tigers had to do battle with the Ladies from Clarke County High School for the County Championship. The Lady Bulldogs had won their way to the championship game defeating the Lady Panthers of Coffeeville High School on Friday.

Unfortunately the Lady Tigers didn't fair quite as well in their clash with Clarke County falling by eight points, 55 - 47. A slow start that found them trailing 20 - 3 mid- way the second quarter proved to be the difference in the game. Although they were able to draw within seven points by the end of the third quarter, they weren't able to completely dig out of the hole they dug for themselves early.

Kierra Westbrook led the scoring attack for the Lady Tigers in the losing effort with 13 points followed by Nicole Washington with 10. Tamara Robinson and Kyera Rowe were next with six points each while Twarner Witherspoon added five points, Britney Stallworth four points and Shelby Crawford three points. Rowe and Witherspoon led the way on the boards with seven rebounds each followed by Westbrook with six and Washington with five. Stallworth was the assist leader for Thomasville with two. On defense Rowe led the charge with six steals while Westbrook recorded four.

With their record now at 10 - 5 the Lady Tigers find themselves heading into a very busy final week of the regular season. Following a make up game on the road with Clarke County on Monday, January 28, the Lady Tigers' schedule includes home games with Marengo on Tuesday, January 29; Sweet Water on Thursday, January 31; and Clarke County on Friday, February 1.
