COMMUNITY CALENDAR THS beauty review tickets Saturday night beauty review tickets will go on sale to the public at 6:45 a.m., Monday, Feb. 11, at Thomasville High School in Mrs. Pitts' room (Room 217). Anyone purchasing tickets must do so in person. No money will be accepted in the office. RFLteam captains meeting Relay for Life team captains will meet at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, at Gaston's Grill. Chair Karen Bradford urges all team captains and individuals considering forming a team to attend. Valentine bake sale A valentine bake sale will be held beginning at 9 a.m., Friday, Feb. 8, at the Bank of Pine Hill. The event is sponsored by the Bank of Pine Hill Advisory Board and all proceeds go to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. 'Dearly Departed' casting call "Dearly Departed," a southern comedy, will be brought to the Alabama Rural Heritage Center in Thomaston this spring by Nell and Bill Richardson of Leeds. Casting call will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, at the center for men and women ages 18 and up. The production is scheduled for June 5-7. For more information call the center at 334-627-3388. Singing Valentines A group of festive singers will deliver Valentine wishes in song at the location you request with a minimum of two songs between 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 14. A $20 donation will deliver singing Valentine to an individual and $50 to deliver to a group. Deadline to place order is noon, Wednesday, Feb. 13. Pick up or drop off order forms at the Southwest Alabama Chamber of Commerce or Thomasville Baptist Church, or contact Mary English or Heidi Gaillard at 251-275-2804. Barbecue by the pound The Magnolia Civic Club will sell barbecue by the pound beginning at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Magnolia Community Center. The meat will be cooked by Paul Thompson in the well-known Leroy Thompson tradition. The cost will be $6 per pound. Call in advance and your order will be bagged and tagged and ready for pick up. Stanley Home Products sale continues The students in the Family and Consumer Sciences Department at Thomasville High School will be selling Stanley Home Products Feb. 1 through Feb. 15. Rural health physician to speak The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association (SWAIA) monthly meeting will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Jackson Steakhouse in Jackson. Guest speaker will be Pamela P. Foster, M.D., M.P.H., deputy director for the Institute for Rural Health Service, School of Medicine at the University of Alabama. Country and gospel singing Sweet Water Booster Club will sponsor a country and gospel singing at 6 p.m., Feb. 23, at the old Nanafalia School to raise funds to purchase 2007 state championship rings for the 2007 Sweet Water State Champion football team. Guests will include Andy Black, Stacy Luker, Mark Davis, Tanya Williams, Carla Gaines, Lisa Bishop, Danielle Hilderbrand, DeAnn Hilderbrand, Lewis Trio, Wanda Landrum, Kiauna Gaines, Independent Choir, Andrea Brewer, Hannah Etheridge and others. Special entertainment will be the 2007 SWHS champion football team. Admission is free but donations can be made. A concession stand will be available and door prizes will be given. Trail ride Jackson Academy will host a trail ride Saturday, Feb. 23 beginning at 10 a.m. and returning around 4 p.m. Riders will take along their own packed lunch, which can be enjoyed during the stop at the Tombigbee River bank. Upon returning to camp, entertainment will begin along with supper (to be provided) and an auction. All activities will end by 8 p.m. No alcohol allowed. A hayride will be available for anyone who doesn't have a horse. Cost is $15 per rider or $30 per family. Scholarship application The Clarke County Soil and Water Conservation District is now accepting applications for a $500 scholarship sponsored by the Alabama Conservation District Employees Association. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, a high school senior and living in the state of Alabama. Applications are available at most high school counselors' offices or may be picked up at the district office at 3100 Highway 43, Suite B, in Jackson. Fire rescue fund-raiser South Marengo County Fire and Rescue Squad will host a fund-raiser from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, Saturday, March 1 at the squad hall at 34818 Highway 10 (mile marker 36). Grilled turkey breasts (weight 7 pounds) will be sold for $20 each. Delivery is available up to a 15-mile radius. The Thomasville Public Library has openings in the story hour programs for threeyear olds and in the K-fourth grade class. Three-year olds' (Reading Bees) story hour is held each Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The K-fourth graders (Dragonflies) meet from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., each Tuesday. These programs require registration, so anyone interested is asked to come by the library.
