Violent storm blasts through the south end of Thomasville

High winds ripped through the southern edge of Thomasville last week damaging several homes as a severe thunderstorm passed through the area.

Homes in the Windsorwood subdivision and Hinson subdivision in the southern end of Thomasville appeared to suffer the most damage. The fencing at the baseball field at Thomasville High School and a number of structures at the Nathan Stephens Complex where softball games are played were also damaged.

While many believe a tornado was the likely cause of the damage, the official word from the National Weather Service is that the storm was a strong storm with straight line winds, but there was no evidence of rotation, said Roy Waite, EMA director for Clarke County.
