Cocaine shipment nabbed
By Arthur McLean Editor

Cocaine was hidden inside the speakers of two small stereos.
Alabama Beverage Control officials seized two kilograms (nearly 5 lbs.) of cocaine headed for York at the Thomasville UPS distribution center last week.

"We got a call from the York Police Department who had gotten a call from a department in California," said agent Phillip Myers.

An informant had tipped lawmen off to the shipment of cocaine hidden inside the speakers of a discount store bookshelf stereo system.

Myers said officials allowed the shipment to make it to the Thomasville distribution hub before opening the packages to seize the cocaine.

From that point, agents made what they called a controlled delivery to the address listed on the shipping boxes.

At the York trailer, the destination for the packages, agents arrested George Lamont Holloway of Eutaw.

Holloway was charged with possesion with intent to distibute cocaine.

At least two other shipments were likely sent to the same house prior to this one, agents determined.

Other arrests

More arrests have been made as the result of joint investigations with the ABC and area police forces. Three are men have been indicted on federal drug charges: David Ervin - six counts of distributing crack cocaine, Derek West - three counts of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, Anthony Ray Lanier - three counts of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine.
