LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Dear Editor: What a wonderful place to live! Shortly after the tornado last Thursday night damaged our house and vehicles, neighbors were out in the rain checking to see that my wife and I were all right. A swarm of volunteer firemen from the Thomasville Fire Department cleared trees from the street to make it passable and removed a large log to unblock my driveway. About one o'clock in the morning, power company men ran new lines to the house. The next morning, neighbors brought coffee and made phone calls. The Mayor checked on us; the Street Department cleared roadside trees and limbs; and the Water Department repaired a leak Friday afternoon. Church people offered help and, since we are Methodists, this also meant food. I dare not try to list all those who have helped, but Blake Dannelly came immediately when a neighbor called. Blake persuaded another (certified residential) electrician to come and put up a new power box, then stayed all morning to help install it. On Saturday, Phil Craddock and Joe Bill Jeffrey came with Earl Parrish and his monster tractor. They cleared my front yard completely and hauled it to the end of the street where the City could get it. It was so clean that I feared the insurance adjuster would not believe the war zone that it had been. It is incredible how many people have offered help and expressed their concern for us. And yes, because so many have asked, the Pizza Peddler van was smashed. But there is a man who wants it to ride again.
Thanks to all of you. Harry and Shirley Hodges
