Dual enrollment student featured on APT segment

When THS senior Vince Carr gets his diploma on May 23, he will have an honor that few other Alabama seniors will have. As part of the Dual Enrollment program between Thomasville High School and Alabama Southern Community College, Carr will need just one more semester to earn a certificate in Machine Tool Technology from ASCC. He already has the distinction of being one of only two high school students in Alabama certified by OSHA.

During his sophomore year, Carr applied for a scholarship given by the City of Thomasville to jump-start the cooperative program between Thomasville City Schools and ASCC. After going through a screening process, Vince entered the Dual Enrollment Program in the fall of his junior year. His classes have been in Machine Tool Technology, under instructor, Gene Tindle of ASCC.

Vince was recently featured in the show, On the Job, which airs on Alabama Public Television. The show, produced by Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT), showcases job opportunities in Alabama and provides students the chance to see many career fields open to them.

"The Dual Enrollment Program is an excellent way for students to earn credits and be prepared to enter the workforce" stated Sandra Williams, coordinator of the Dual Enrollment Program at THS. "The City of Thomasville gives us $25,000 each year, but we need more businesses to become sponsors. Additional funds would allow us to give more opportunities to more students."

Open enrollment for Dual Enrollment begins March 10th. Parents and students interested in this program should call the THS guidance office.
