Power should be in voters' hands
With nearly 800 so-called super delegates ready to swing the nomination of the Democratic presidential nominee, the word oligarchy easily comes to mind.

It's a term that means political power effectively rests in the hands of a small elite. It looks like with the closeness of the Obama Clinton race that these delegats, about one fifth of the total delegates, could sway the nomination either way.

And some wonder why voter turnouts tend to be low.

The Republican party has its own sins to answer for as well.

It's a symptom of the power game Washington. Power is what counts. If you have it, you work to hang on to it. If you or your party is out of power, you'll do almost anything to get it back.

The struggle over power has become so prominent that it seems as if national issues tend to take a back seat.

For those who decry the electoral college, surely this issue of unplegded delegates should be just as concerting.

The real power should rest in the hands of the people, not in the hands of a few who can sit above the rest of us.
