Jeff Newton of Camden reports that the February 9th tournament, the first of Bruce McNiders 2008 Mcnider Marine Tournament Trail, was a success with 46 boats entering. The contestants launched at first light from the Demopolis City Landing fishing the Black Warrior and Tombigbee rivers. Saturday was a beautiful day with blue bird skies, temperatures in the lower 60s and a slight breeze. Water temperature was 54 to 56 degrees with moderate clarity. Weigh in was at 3:00 pm with lots of stringers in the 9 to 12 pound range which is average for the Demopolis area with a 14" size limit. Most of the fish caught came from cuts in the main river channel. The winning stringers reportedly came from the flooded beaver ponds in the back of the sloughs. All winning teams weighed in the 5 fish limit.
