Board to give Adkison new contract The Thomasville Board of Education approved Tuesday the process to prepare a new contract for Superintendent Dr. Vic N. Adkison. Board members Kevin Smoker and Asa Charleston were appointed as a committee to review the contract and report back to the board. Adkison has been the superintendent of the Thomasville system since June 2006. In other action from Tuesday's meeting, the board approved an amendment to the fiscal 2008 budget with a $739,195 increase in budgeted revenue and expenditures due to grant funds and carryover, according to Linda McGhee, custodian of school funds. There is a total of $172,978 in federal carryover funds and $566,217 in grant funds. • Superintendent Adkison hopes that renovation will begin this summer on the Thomasville High School campus. The renovation will include the main building, the career tech wing, the locker rooms in the gymnasium and the cafeteria. Goodwin, Mills and Cawood of Montgomery have been chosen as the architects. The estimate for roof repair is already $200,000, he said. • The following personnel changes were approved by the board: retirements: Julia Milstead, instructional improvement specialist, effective March 1; Carolyn Taylor, counselor at Thomasville Middle School, effective June 9; Joyce Walker, Child Nutrition Program manager at Thomasville Elementary School, effective May 1; resignation: Jill Barlow, math teacher at Thomasville High School, effective May 26; employment: Margaret Whitley as a gifted teacher. The following salary supplements were given for the remander of the school year: Dorothy Thomas, administrative duties, TES, $1,000; Jill Barlow, administrative duties, THS, $1,000; Allison Harris, fixed assets and inventory duties, TES, $1,000; and Charlyn Vick, fixed assets and inventory duties, THS, $1,000.
The employees will assume additional duties that were the responsibility of the assistant principals at TES and TMS who retired Jan. 1 of this year.
