School News
Up first, are the Thomas - ville Lady Tiger softball team. They had a great victory Saturday at the Lady Tigers Invitational Tourna - ment. The ladies defeated Sweet Water 11-4 in the morning, Jackson 11-4 in the afternoon, and Jackson once more Saturday night with a score of 15-1. These girls are starting off a great season and they deserve your our support. Keep up the amazing work girls! "Next up at bat…" The Tiger baseball team has had quite an impressive week, despite their two losses. Our boys traveled to Mobile last week in to play in the Hank Aaron Classic at Hank Aaron Stadium. They played Satsuma on Monday (Feb. 18) and though they lost 11-1, they played a hard game. On Tuesday, the guys went up against Murphy and came out with an 11-1 triumph. On Saturday the boys played Robertsdale and lost 18-5. However, this past Monday the Tigers faced Washington County at home immediately after school. Our guys had a 13-2 success and we are all extremely proud of them. The Tiger baseball team will play in the Johnny Poole Classic in Satsuma Feb. 29 - Mar. 1. Their next home game will then be March 11 against the Clarke County Bulldogs at 6 p.m. In other Tiger news, the Thespian drama students competed this weekend in Pelham. Caleb Clardy won first place in playwriting. Shelby Henry brought home second place in costume design and Nikki Pearson second place in make-up design. Scipio Tolbert, Evander Davis, and Ariel Racine won third place in group pantomime and John Thornton took third place in solo musical male. Our group improv team, John Sims, Michael Newton, Julie Dozier and Jeff Shewmake all received superior ratings. Also, Valeria King was elected to the Student State Board. Congratulations to all the students who worked hard and participated in this event. Also, our students are studying diligently for the upcoming graduation exams and remediation is going great! The graduation exam schedule is as follows:
Now, seniors, hold in your excitement on this announcement: Seniors who have passed your graduation exams will not report to school until 11:15 a.m., Friday (29th) through Friday (7th). Yes, we are all terribly excited about this! Juniors and seniors, please be reminded that Feb. 29 is the last day to pay prom fees at the $75 rate. On Monday, March 3, the fee will be raised to $100. The National Honor Society is very busy right now. They are in the midst of a "gentlyused shoe drive" and are planning for a blood drive. In order to not seem redundant, I have included these announcements elsewhere in this edition of the Times and will not be repeating them here. Please check through to see the details on these two events. The THS Senior Relay for Life team is very busy at the moment, also. Team members have kicked off their "Beautiful Baby Photo Contest," Suns & Moons Drive, Pizza Hut Fundraiser Mondays, Flowering, Flocking, Pocket Change, and are in the process of planning an art auction. The photo contest costs only $10 to enter your 6 month through 48-month-old child's photo. The details of this contest are also mentioned elsewhere in this edition. Keep in mind this contest is not limited to the Thomasville area. The Suns & Moons drive is underway, also. Please see any senior Relay for Life team member to purchase either a sun or moon (in honor of or memory of) for just $1. These signs are being placed on the wall in the cafeteria and are a great way for students, parents and community members to show their support for finding a cure for cancer, while honoring a loved one. Additionally, the Senior RFLteam will be holding fund-raiser nights on Mondays until March 31. Please make it a priority to dine in or carry out at Pizza Hut on Monday nights. In order for the team to receive 20 percent of your purchase you must have a voucher. These vouchers are being passed out throughout town. However, if you do not have a voucher and would like to contribute anyway, please mention the Senior RFLteam and its efforts and inform your server of your wish to contribute.
Last, in Relay team news are the students' favorite projects, Flowering and Flocking. The members have made some "surprise attacks" on quite a few of the teachers and faculty by placing either faux flowers or plastic lawn birds in their yards. In order to remove these "lawn ornaments" the homeowners must contribute $25 to the RFLteam. So far affected at THS are Mrs. Wood, Mrs. Hare, Mr. Ferguson, Mrs. Pitts and Mrs. Rita Nichols. The best part? The homeowner gets to choose who the next person will be to receive these lovely gifts. Watch out Thomasvillians, these choices are NOT limited to THS employees.
