Festival on the River

March 6, 7 and 8 the Monroe County Heritage Museums will host Festival on the Alabama River on the bank of the Alabama River at the Claiborne Lock and Dam. The festival, which will depict the Alabama frontier in the late 1700s and early 1800s will host more than 30 demonstrators and living history reenactors. This living history event is open for school groups and the public Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and continue through Saturday at the same time for the general public. Relay captains' meeting

The Relay for Life team captains meeting scheduled for today, Thursday, March 6, has been rescheduled for 5:30 p.m., Thursday, March 13, in the front classroom of Alabama Southern's library building, on the Thomasville campus on Highway 43 South. At this meeting all team captains who haven't registered their team members online will get assistance to do so.

Women's business and entrepreneur workshop

The Grove Hill Area Chamber of Commerce and the Women's Business Center, Inc. will host a women's business and entrepreneur workshop from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Thursday, March 6. The workshop, titled "Coffee with Sylvia" will be conducted by Sylvia Browder and is free to anyone who would like to attend. The discussion for the workshop will be problems Women Small Business Owners Face (and the solutions!). The workshop will be held at the Helms House next to the Clarke County Museum. Blood drive

Pineview Baptist Church, 28 Moore Street in Thomasville, will host an American Red Cross blood drive from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Friday, March 7. As a special thanks all donors will receive an American Red Cross T-shirt and will also be entered to win a cruise for two with round-trip domestic Delta Air Line tickets.

Scholarship application

The Clarke County Soil and Water Conservation District is now accepting applications for a $500 scholarship sponsored by the Alabama Conservation District Employees Association. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, a high school senior and living in the state of Alabama. Applications are available at most high school counselors' offices or may be picked up at the district office at 3100 Highway 43, Suite B, in Jackson. Deadline to receive completed applications is March 7. For more information call 251-246-0245, ext. 3.

ANON Meets

AL-ANON meets every Thursday night at 6:30 at Pineview Baptist Church (enter door at Moore Street entrance behind church). For more information call 636-9985.

Story hour at the library

The Thomasville Public Library has openings in the story hour programs for threeyear olds and in the K-fourth grade class. Three-year olds' (Reading Bees) story hour is held each Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The K-fourth graders (Dragonflies) meet from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., each Tuesday. These programs require registration, so anyone interested is asked to come by the library.

Homework assignments

Thomasville Middle School and Thomasville High School homework assignments are posted by all teachers each week. They are published by 4 p.m. every Monday for that week.
