Be careful on tail end of flu season Southwestern Alabama is experiencing a late but highly active flu. Cases of the flu are presenting in large numbers to physician offices and surrounding Emergency Rooms. For most people the flu makes them feel very sick, but they generally get better in about a week. Symptoms of the flu include the following: -Fever (usually high) lasting 3-5 days -Headache -Extreme tiredness -Dry cough -Sore Throat -Runny or Stuffy Nose -Muscle aches -Stomach symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea can occur. What to do if you have the flu: -Rest in bed -Drink lots of fluids -Take a non-aspirin pain reliever to reduce fever -Stay home and avoid public activities for 5 days so that you do not pass the flu to other people. When to call a healthcare provider: -The fever lasts for more than 3-5 days -Fever or cough goes away for 24 hours and then returns
-The person is not able to eat or drink enough fluids
