Spiritual Reflections
Thank God in midst of afflictions
Pat Ozment Jr. IMB Missionary to Ghana
After my escape/discharge from the hospital, last Sunday, Peggy and I returned to our residence with Lansah.

The Demerol had done its thing. I was pain free, though sore in places. That afternoon I went to see Dr. Opoku, a friend of Rev. Isaac's. He did an ultrasound and nothing showed up, which meant that the stone was either very small (like yeah, sure) or that it had moved into my urethra. He prescribed pain medication, along with other medications, which are supposed to help one pass a kidney stone, and referred me to a lab for Xray test on Monday, but the lab rescheduled for Thursday.

Tuesday, I still had no pain, and I'm thinking the stone is gone. Praise the Lord!

I went to school, and taught my Old Testament Survey II class. Just as I finished, the nauseating, mind numbing, pain returned.

We had prayed about this possibility, so we headed for the Baptist Medical Clinic in Nalerigu, 85 miles north of Tamale. It takes 3 hours to travel that distance because the last 36 miles are over a road that can be duplicated only by a motocross racetrack.

We made it. Lansah was driving, Peggy was praying, and I was moaning, groaning and popping pills.

When we arrived in Nalerigu I knew every jolting inch of that road, but I was given a shot of wonderful stuff and the pain became a memory. We spent the night with Dr. George and Elizabeth Faile.

Wednesday, Dr. Earl Hewett did an ultrasound, but could not find the stone, though lab test showed blood in my urine. It was recommended that I go to Accra and see a urologist.

Here we go again.

Where are you God, what are you doing? Are you asleep? Are you deaf to my cries? Are you without power to heal my affliction? What do you have to say God?

In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 God answered me saying, "Be joyful always, pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."

When I think about it, I sometimes thank God for His blessings. Paul says, "thank God in the midst of your afflictions."

"In all things give thanks," and I'll see you in church.
