'The Market' supports Nicaraguan mission team

"The Market", March 7 and 8, is a yard sale and bake sale at the First Baptist Church of Jackson. The proceeds from this event supports the efforts of its Nicaraguan mission team.

Shopping opportunities will begin Friday, March 7, 6- 8 p.m., with Market Mania. For a $5 entrance fee, shoppers gain early entrance. The market will open at 7 a.m., Saturday with no admission. Baked items will be available for purchase during the activities.

Focus of the team, led by Dr. Norman Stevens, is raising money to pay for medicines, supplies and building a house for the pastor of the Baptist church in the village of El Sauce.

Items may be dropped off at the church fellowship hall Thursday, March 6 or contact the church office at 246-4491 and a team member will contact you.

First family, friends day

Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Sweet Water will host its First Family and Friends Day at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, March 9. Rev. Tim Pearson and the Mt. Mariah Baptist Church family and chorus of Melvin will be special guests. Everyone is invited to attend and bring along a friend and family member.

Tri-county's largest Easter egg hunt

Jackson First Assembly of God will host the annual Tri- County's Largest Easter Egg Hunt at 10 a.m., March 15. Free coke and popcorn for all kids and more than 4,000 eggs will be hidden with three grand prize eggs per age division, in three age divisions. Prizes to be given away will be:

0-3 years of age - $25, Tricycle and battery powered motorcycle

4-7 years of age - $25, bicycle and iPod

8-11 years (sixth grade) - $25, bicycle and iPod

Pastor Russell invites everyone to attend the Easter Egg hunt. For more information call the church office at 251-246-4736. First Assembly is located on Highway 69 across from the National Guard Armory.

Stephanie Leavins in concert

Vineland Baptist Church, County Road 55 in Vineland, will host Stephanie Leavins of Milton, Fla. in concert at 6 p.m., Saturday, March 8. Stephanie was born with Muscular Dystrophy, and has spent her entire life in a wheelchair. Her faith in God was only strenghtened because of this handicap. She has used this opportunity to inspire and encourage audiences all across the country. Her courage and the joy she has in her life is contagious. She shares the many miracles God has performed in her life. Stephanie has devoted her life to telling people of God's love and mercy through her testimony and song. Pastor's anniversary

Star Bethel P.B. Church in Sweet Water host the eighth year anniversary of its pastor and wife, Elder John H. Wright and first lady Sister Dorothy Wright at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, March 9. Guest speaker will be Elder Earnest Eirby of Pine Level Baptist Church in Arlington and Athens Baptist Church in Orrville. Everyone is invited and dinner will be served.

Monologue, musical

Rev. Ed Shirley, pastor of Camden United Methodist Church, will present a dramatic monologue and musical program on the life and ministry of Charles Wesley. The program, which is by reserved ticket only, will begin at 11 a.m. promptly with a catered meal to follow in the fellowship hall. Tickets must be reserved by 12 noon Thursday, March 13. The cost will be $10.

Cathy Barron benefit

A benefit program for Sister Cathy Landrum Barron will be held at 6 p.m., March 15, at William Temple CME Church in Thomasville. All groups and choirs are invited and asked to bring an "A" and a "B" selection. Donations will be accepted. The benefit is being sponsored by her mother Carleen Tunstall and sisters Linda Gale and Vicky Landrum.

Pastor anniversary, birthday

Sunflower AOH Church of God, McFadden Street in Thomasville, will be celebrating its pastor, Elder Samuel L. Calhoun's 38 years of preaching, 24 years of singing and 72nd birthday at 6 p.m., Saturday, March 29. Special guest will be the Rev. Hubert "Hubie" Baker and the Believers of Mobile. Other invited groups are: Spiritual Kings of Dixons Mills, Humble Spirits of Thomasville, Central Gospel Singers of Thomasville and LIFE Tech Gospel Group of Thomasville. Master of ceremony will be Winfred Holt of Thomasville. This is an open door program. Monetary and personal gifts are welcomed. Also included will be praising God, good singing and good food. Everyone is invited.

Angels Touching Children's Lives

Angels Touching Children's Lives (ATCL), a Christian organization, has been established to brighten and enhance the lives of children with special needs.
