Both the Thomasville High School Lady Tiger Varsity and Junior Varsity teams took part in the Hillcrest/Hampton Inn Classic held in Tuscaloosa on Friday, February 29 and Saturday, March 1. And in both cases the Thomasville teams represented themselves very well in a strong field of competitors.

In the varsity action the Lady Tigers picked up a split in Friday's action defeating the host 6A Hillcrest Lady Patriots 11 - 10 and losing to 6A Foley's Lady Lions 7 - 4. On Saturday, March 1 the results were pretty much the same with the Thomasville Ladies picking up a win via a forfeit from the 6A Lady Vols from Jeff Davis High School and dropping an 8 - 0 decision to the 6A Tuscaloosa County High School Lady Wildcats.

In the win over Hillcrest, Rachel Norris picked up the decision on the mound for Thomasville allowing 10 runs on 10 hits and one walk in six innings of work. At the plate the Lady Tigers pounded out 10 hits of their own with Ashley Crawford leading the way with four. Others contributing to the cause with one hit each were; Adreanne Boyette, Cassie Flint, Shelby Myers, Lindsey Overstreet, Brianna Penn, and Savannah Smith. In the extrabase hit category Crawford smashed her second homerun of the season and a double with Penn also adding a double. The RBIs were split equally between Crawford, Flint, and Penn with each of them registering two.

In the second game, the Lady Tigers were actually leading 4 - 2 before giving up five runs in the last inning to take the loss. Savannah Smith who was 3 - 0 for the season heading into the game took the loss allowing seven runs on nine hits and one hit batsman while striking out one in four innings of work. Over on offense the Lady Tiger bats were basically held in check with only Ashley Crawford, Brianna Penn and Rachel Wright getting one hit each. Wright had the only RBI for Thomasville and there were no extra-base hits.

On Saturday, other than the win by forfeit over Jeff Davis, things didn't go as well for the Lady Tiger Varsity as the Lady Wildcats from Tuscaloosa County High School shut out Thomasville 8 - 0. Savannah Smith who started on the hill for the Lady Tigers was saddled with her second loss of the season allowing eight runs on 15 hits and one hit batsman while striking out five in six innings of work. At the plate the Lady Tigers could only manage two hits with Brianna Penn and Savannah Smith getting one each.

In the Junior Varsity action the Lady Tigers also split on Friday defeating the 6A Pell City Lady Panthers 12 - 2 before losing to the 6A Tuscaloosa County Lady Wildcats 7 - 6. Things were different on Saturday however as the 6A Hillcrest Lady Patriots defeated the Thomasville Ladies 7 - 2 and the 5A Demopolis Lady Tigers took a 10 - 1 decision from the Thomasville Ladies.

In their first game on Friday with Pell City the Thomasville JV pounded out 10 hits with Sheyenne Myers leading the charge with three hits followed by Kayley McManus and Natalie Washington with two hits each and Tiffany Baugh, Mary Beth Nichols, and Alexis Watters with one hit apiece. Both McManus and Watters had triples to lead the team in extra-base hits. In the RBI category it was McManus setting the pace again with three while Baugh, Myers and Watters drove in one run each. On the mound seventh grader Tiffany Drinkard picked up the win allowing two runs on one-hit, three walks, and two hit batsmen while striking out two in four innings.

In their loss to Tuscaloosa County on Friday, the Thomasville JV actually out-hit their opponent seven to four but came up one run short on the scoreboard. Sheyene Myers and Shan Washington were the offensive leaders for the Lady Tigers with two hits each. Following them with one hit apiece were; Tiffany Drinkard, Savanna Shepard, and Natalie Washington. Sheppard had the only extra-base hit for the Lady Tigers with a triple and led the RBI category with two followed by Myers with one. On the mound Tiffany Baugh, also a seventh grader, took the loss allowing seven runs on four hits, two walks and one hit batsman while striking out one in three innings.

In Saturday's first match-up with host Hillcrest the Lady Tigers picked up six hits, just as their opponents did but couldn't pick up the runs they needed to win the game. Tiffany Drinkard led the offensive charge for the Thomasville Ladies with two hits followed by JuQuesah Evans, Sheyenne Myers, Amber Scott, and Natalie Washington with one hit each. Evans had the only extra-base hit with a double and Drinkard was the RBI leader with two. On the mound Tiffany Baugh suffered her second loss of the tournament allowing seven runs on six hits and four walks while striking out two in four innings.

In their final game of the tournament the Lady Tiger JV bats all but went silent with only Kaley McManus and Shan Washington picking up one hit each. In both the extra-base hit category and RBI area McManus was the leader slapping a double and picking up the lone RBI. On the mound Tiffany Drinkard suffered her first loss of the season allowing 10 runs on four hits, six walks and one hit batsman while striking out two in four innings.

Next up for the Lady Tigers is a JV/Varsity double header with the Lady Tigers of Monroe County High School set for Thursday, March 6 in Thomasville. Game time for the first one is set for 4:00 PM. They will follow that action up with a trip to Mobile to participate in the Baker High School invitational tournament on Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8.
