Boys drop three in tourney
In their first game of the weekend, played on Friday, February 29, the Tigers fell to host 6A Satsuma 8 - 3. Mallan Sheffield who started on the mound for the Tigers was charged with the loss allowing eight runs on nine hits and two hit batsmen while striking out two in 4 2/3 innings. Taylor Sturdivant and Sean Skelton followed Sheffield to the mound with Sturdivant inducing the only batter he faced into an inning ending pop-up in the 1/3 inning he worked. Skelton logged one complete inning giving up one hit and striking out one batter. At the plate the Tigers collected six hits with Paul Noble and Kenny Sanders picking up two hits each while Jon Harrison and Tevin Pope added one hit apiece. Harrison and Noble each had an extra-base hit in the game with Harrison slugging a double while Noble blasted his first homerun of the season. The two of them also led the team in RBIs as well with one each. Continuing play on Saturday, March 1, the Tigers lost a heartbreaking 4 - 3 decision to 6A Auburn High School in their first game of the day, stranding eight base runners along the way. Trailing 4 - 2 going into the last half of the seventh inning Thomasville loaded the bases with no outs but could only manage to score one as a ground ball double play took them out of a potentially big inning. Daniel Rogers who got the start for the Tigers took the loss on the mound allowing four runs on five hits and two hit batsmen while striking out two in 5 2/3 innings. Rob Anderson finished the game allowing one hit in 1 1/3 innings. On offense Thomasville matched the Auburn offense with six hits of their own. Tevin Pope led the way with two hits while Reeves Bozeman, Alex Buford, Shaq Jackson, and Paul Noble all picked up one hit apiece. Bozeman and Noble had the Tigers' only extra-base hits with each of them picking up a double. In the RBI category Noble and Kenny Sanders each had one to lead Thomasville. In their final game of the tournament the Tigers lost for the third time this season to 6A Satsuma with the final this time being 11 - 5. Things looked good for the Tigers early when they scored three in the first inning to take a 3 - 0 lead. The lead evaporated in the second inning however as four Thomasville errors led to five Satsuma runs. Thomasville closed to within two in the fourth trailing 7 - 5. Four more runs in the fifth by their host sealed the deal however. Paul Noble who started the game and worked 2 1/3 innings suffered his first loss of the season. During his stint on the mound he allowed seven runs on four hits, six walks, and one hit batsman while striking out three. He was followed to the mound by Reeves Bozeman who allowed three runs on two hits and one walk while striking out one. Jamie Morgan was next allowing one run on two hits in 2/3 inning. Alex Buford finished the game striking out two in his one inning on the hill. Over on offense once again the Tigers matched their opponents with eight hits. Reeves Bozeman, Paul Noble and Mallan Sheffield set the pace with two hits each. Joining them with one hit each were Walt Bedsole and Kenny Sanders. Sanders and Sheffield each had a double in the game for the Tigers' only extra-base hits. In the RBI category Sheffield had two while Bozeman and Sanders had one apiece.
On the schedule next for the Tigers is another trip to Mobile County on Saturday, March 8, where they will take on Theodore and Citronelle in a three team round robin matchup. Game time for the first game is set for 11:00 AM with the second one to come at approximately 1:30 PM.
