TMS splits with Sweet Water The TMS Tiger baseball team traveled to Sweet Water on Tuesday, February 26 for a make up doubleheader that was rained out the week before. As things turned out the Tigers split with their host losing the first game 9 - 3 and winning the night cap 5 - 3. In game one SWMS pitcher Linc Luker held the Tigers to only two hits in picking up the win. Hunter Jackson and John Knight recorded the two hits for the Tigers. Jackson also had the Tigers' only RBI in the game. On the mound, Tiger starter Ryan Cribb only managed to get through 2/3 of an inning allowing four runs on one hit, four walks, and one hit batsmen while striking out two. Tyler Dement who followed Cribb to the mound was tagged with the loss giving up five runs on four hits and one hit batsman while striking out two in 3 1/3 innings. None of the runs charged to Dement were earned. Things went a little better for the Tigers in the second game as Tevin Watters, the Tiger starter and Hunter Jackson combined to hold the Bulldogs to only one hit on the way to a victory. Watters, who started for Thomasville, allowed three runs on one hit, three walks and one hit batsman while striking out six in three innings of work. Jackson who pitched the final two innings kept the Bulldog batters at bay striking out two to pick up the win. At the plate the Tigers recorded four hits with Ryan Cribb, Corey Orr, Cody Shoemaker and Tevin Watters all picking up one hit each. Shoemaker had the only extrabase hit with a double. In the RBI category Watters led the way with two while Cribb, Orr and Shoemaker each had one. Following Tuesday's split the Tigers traveled to Grove Hill on Wednesday, February 27, for a single game with the Wilson Hall Middle School Bulldogs. Unfortunately a promising start that saw the Tigers take a 3 - 0 lead in the third inning soon went the other way as the Bulldogs put seven unearned runs on the board in the fourth on their way to a 14 - 4 win. Cody Shoemaker, who started for the Tigers on the mound, was saddled with the loss allowing six runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five in three innings. Caleb DeRouen followed Shoemaker to the mound working one inning in which he allowed five runs on one hit and two walks. Lamarr Charleston finished things up for the Tigers allowing three runs on one hit and one walk while striking out two in one inning. On offense Jarvis Dunning set the pace for the Tigers in the loss with two hits. He was followed by Hunter Jackson, John Knight and Adam Sparks with one hit apiece. In the RBI category Dunning, Sparks, and Tevin Watters were each credited with one.
Up next for TMS was a double header with Martin Middle School of Selma on the road, Monday, March 3 followed by home double headers with Demopolis on Tuesday, March 4 and Sweet Water on Thursday, March 6.
