The Thomasville High School Junior Varsity baseball team, playing host to the Jackson High School Junior Varsity team, in a twi-night double header this past Thursday, February 28, took both ends of the twin bill to begin their season with a 2 - 0 mark. The margin of victory in the first game was 1 - 0 while the night cap wound up 9 - 5 in the Tigers' favor.

In the first game three Tiger pitchers combined to hold the Aggie lineup to a two hit shutout. Will Morgan who started the game for the Tigers worked two innings in which he hit one batter and struck out three. Jo Jo Holden followed Morgan to the mound allowing the only two hits while striking out two. Jay Williams, who did not allow a single Aggie to reach base safely in the last inning of the game, was credited with the win.

On offense the Tigers scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when Sam Wise drove in Russ Wright on a fielders' choice to post the victory. Leading the attack was Russ Wright with two hits. Others contributing one hit to the cause included Brett Green, Brett Skelton, and Charles Taylor.

In the second game the Tigers jumped out to a 6 - 0 lead in the first two innings and then held off a late inning rally to claim the 9 - 5 win. Sam Wise and Russ Wright set the pace on offense in this one with both of them registering two hits. Following them with one hit apiece in the game were; Zack Day, Harrison Lewis, Charles Taylor and Jay Williams. In the extra-base hit category Wise had two doubles while Williams had one. Williams and Wise were also the RBI leaders with three apiece while Day, Lewis and Taylor each drove in one run.

On the mound, Jake Dukes, the second of three pitchers used by the Tigers in the game, was credited with the win. He allowed one run on one hit and one walk while striking out three. He was preceded by starter Brett Skelton who also worked two innings holding the Aggies hitless and scoreless during his stint. Russ Wright pitched the last inning of the game allowing four runs on five hits while striking out two.

The Tiger JV will be back in action next on Tuesday, March when they play host to the Clarke County High School JV in the first game of a JV/Varsity double header. The starting time for the game is set for 4:00 PM.
