OBITUARIES Mary Ann Downey Mary Ann Downey, 68, of Sweet Water, died Friday, March 7, 2008, at her home. Mrs. Downey was born Dec. 20, 1939 in Sweet Water, She was a homemaker and was a member of Sweet Water United Methodist Church. The funeral was held at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 9, at Sweet Water United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ed Rose officiating. Burial was in Sweet Water Cemetery. Mrs. Downey is survived by her husband, Billy Downey of Sweet Water; two daughters, Lisa Overton and Teresa D. McManus, both of Sweet Water; one brother, Milton Allen Etheridge of Sweet Water; one sister, Wynita Atchison of Huntsville; and four grandchildren, Drew Overton and Riley Overton, both of Sweet Water, Amy McManus of Montgomery and Emily McManus of Troy. Pallbearers were Drew Overton, Riley Overton, Mike Murphy, Morris Etheridge, Greg Crutcher and Mike Armistead. Honorary pallbearers were James Ellis Kelly, Bobo Downey, James Whitley, Tommy Ware, Barry Beck and Roland Davis. O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville directed. Joseph Fudge Flowers Joseph Fudge Flowers, 78, of Thomaston, died Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital in Demopolis. Mr. Flowers was born Oct. 13, 1929, in Lamison. He was a retired electrician and was a Navy veteran. Graveside service was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 8, at Goose Creek Cemetery in Lamison with the Rev. Earnie Calhoun officiating. Mr. Flowers is survived by his wife, Ernestine Martin Flowers of Thomaston; three daughters, Debra Flowers (Jamie) Mitchell of Thomaston, Charlotte (Robert) Young of Eufaula and Gail Santana of Modesto, Calif.; two sons, David (Janet) Flowers of Linden and Joseph Arnold (Marie) Flowers of Baker, Fla.; one brother, Pete Flowers Jr. of Pleasant Grove; one sister, Emmie Anderson of Birmingham; nine grandchildren, Haley Mitchell, Justin Flowers, Christopher Flowers, Wesley Flowers, Lisa Flowers, April Young, Scott Young, Melanie McPherrin and Melissa Bleakley; and 15 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Glenn Ray, Kenny Wayne Agee, Robert McCarty, Randy McCarty, Larry Flowers and Keith Franz. Honorary pallbearer was Gerald Morgan. O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden directed. Clyde R. Hall Clyde R. Hall, 79, of Linden, died Saturday, March 1, 2008, at Marengo Nursing Home. Mr. Hall was born April 30, 1928, in Octagon. He was a former paper mill knife grinder. Mr. Hall was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. The funeral was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 4, at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Tucker and the Rev. Daniel Gandy officiating. Burial was in New Octagon Cemetery in Linden. Mr. Hall is survived by one son, Gene (Annette) Hall of Orrville; two daughters, Rose (David) Houmes of Sarasota, Fla. and Sue (Mike) Sharpe of Linden; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Darrell Schroeder, Shaun Lehman, Matthew Houmes, Jamie Sharpe, Michael Hall and Steve Norris. O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home of Linden directed. Gene Authur Lorance Gene Authur Lorance, 58, of Thomasville, died Saturday, March 8, 2008, at his home in Vineland. Mr. Lorance was born July 14, 1949 in Pickens, Miss. Graveside memorial service will be held at a later date at Pickens Cemetery in Pickens, Miss. Mr. Lorance is survived by one sister, Cindy P. Harvell of Thomasville; two nieces, Tracy Walker and Christina Walker, both of Thomasville; and one nephew, Bobby Harvell of Pine Hill. Mr. Lorance was preceded in death by his parents, Authur M. Lorance and Edieth W. Lorance. O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville handled the cremation service. Ellen Neugent Toland Ellen Neugent Toland, 58, died Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Mobile Infirmary. Ms. Toland was a lifelong resident of Jackson and served as Clarke County Administrator for nearly 30 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jackson. A memorial service was held Saturday, March 8, at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson. Ms. Toland is survived by one daughter, Ashley Helen Toland of Mobile; her twin sister, Helen Linton of Jackson; and two brothers, Chris Neugent of Jackson and Michael Neugent of Gulf Shores. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gaines and Genevieve Neugent.
