Lady Tigers win three in Mobile tournament
In their first game of the weekend played on Friday, March 7, the Lady Tigers fell to the host Baker High Honeybees 6 - 3. Rachel Norris, who started the game and went the distance on the mound for Thomasville, was charged with the loss allowing six runs on three hits, one walk and one hit batsman while striking out four in five innings. At the plate the Lady Tiger offense actually out hit Baker picking up seven hits in the game. Nicole Washington lead the charge with three hits followed by Adreanna Boyette and Briana Penn with two each. The Lady Tigers bounced back in their second game Friday defeating Baldwin County High School 6 - 2. Savannah Smith picked up the win on the mound for the Lady Tigers allowing two runs on three hits while striking out four in four innings. On offense the Thomasville Ladies pounded out 11 hits with Nicole Washington leading the way with three followed closely by Brianna Penn and Savannah Smith with two hits each. Others contributing one hit each to the cause were; Adreanna Boyette, Cassie Flint, Taylor Gilchrist, and Shelby Myers. Myers and Smith had the only extra-base hits with each connecting on a double. In the RBI category Myers and Smith both had two while Penn picked up one. Picking up play again on Saturday, March 8, the Lady Tigers opened the day in a big way shellacking the Davidson High Lady Warriors 25 - 3. Lindsey Overstreet, who started on the mound for Thomasville picked up her first win of the season allowing three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four. On the flip side Ovestreet got plenty of support from her offense as they recorded 13 hits against the Lady Warrior pitching. Leading the charge for the Lady Tigers was Ashley Crawford with three hits followed by Taylor Gilchrist, Rachel Norris, and Brianna Penn with two hits each. Others who had a part in the Lady Tiger hit parade were; Cassie Flint, Shelby Myers, Savannah Smith and Nicole Washington with one hit apiece. In the extra-base hit area Washington blasted a homerun, Crawford legged out a triple and Penn slugged a double. Washington with six and Crawford with five were the RBI leaders in the game followed by Flint, Gilchrist, and Myers with two each and Adrianna Boyette, Norris, Penn, and Smith with one apiece. Keeping things rolling the Lady Tigers grabbed their second win of the day and third of the tournament when they defeated the Mary G. Montgomery Lady Vikings 2 - 1 next. Savannah Smith picked up the win on the mound for Thomasville holding the MGM girls to one run on five hits, one walk, and one hit batsman while striking out five in seven innings of work. On offense Smith helped her own cause picking up three hits to lead the Lady Tigers while Ashley Crawford and Rachel Norris each added one hit apiece. In the extra-base hit area Smith had a triple and a double and Crawford had a double. Crawford also recorded the Lady Tigers' only RBI in the game. The day ended on a somewhat sour note for the Lady Tigers when the Baker High School Ladies eked out a 1 - 0 win to bring Thomasville's overall season record to 8 - 4. Savannah Smith took the loss on the mound for Thomasville dropping her season mark to 4 - 3. In seven innings she allowed one run on five hits, and one walk while striking out six. Over on offense the Lady Tiger bats were pretty much silent with Adreanna Boyette picking up Thomasville's lone hit.
Coming up this week the Lady Tigers were slated to host Jackson High Lady Aggies on Tuesday, March 11 and Clarke County Lady Bulldogs on Thursday, March 13 before hitting the road on Friday, March 14, to take on the Lady Bulldogs of Sweet Water. All three match-ups were scheduled as varsity/ junior varsity double headers with things getting under way at 4:00 PM.
