Two fishing tournaments coming up

The Wilcox Area Chamber of Commerce has announced two big fishing events on Lake Dannelly (Miller's Ferry Lake) in the spring of 2008.

The Chamber is sponsoring a 30-day Crappie Derby with over $60,000 worth of crappie swimming in the lake. For only a $5 entry fee, anglers will have the opportunity to catch fish with values ranging from $100 up to $25,000. The event will begin on April 19th and end May 18th, spanning 5 full weekends of fishing.

To kick off the Crappie Derby the Chamber is hosting a Big Fish Crappie Tournament on April 19th. Anglers will have the opportunity to weighin fish during six hourly weighins during the day with the top prize per hour of $100. The grand prize for the largest fish for the tournament is $1000, followed by a $500 second place prize and a $250 third place prize. An entry fee of $25 per angler applies to this event.

The Chattin' Outdoors radio show will kick off the day with a live broadcast of their show from the tournament's central location, the Miller's Ferry Marina, beginning at 7am.

WIN 98.5 will be on hand with the Rolling Radio Show throughout the day with updates from the tournament scene. Chamber President William Malone says these events have already garnered quite a bit of attention from outside the Wilcox County area.
