The Thomasville Tiger Varsity baseball team traveled to Citronelle on Saturday, March 8, for a three team round robin match-up that included themselves, the 6A Theodore Bobcats and the host 5A Citronelle Wildcats. Playing in the first two games of the day the Tigers defeated the Wildcats 4 - 1 and then fell to the Bobcats 5 - 2.

In their game with Citronelle, the Tigers broke open 0 - 0 deadlock in the top of the fifth scoring three runs to take the lead. The Wildcats responded with one run of their own in the bottom of the fifth but could get no closer as the Tigers scored another run in the top of the sixth to make the final 4 - 1. For the Tigers it was a combination of good defense, outstanding pitching and some timely hitting that proved to be the difference.

Daniel Rogers who started on the mound picked up his first win of the season allowing one run on six hits, two walks and two hit batsmen while striking out four in 6 2/3 innings of work. Paul Noble, who came on to get the final out in the seventh, was credited with a save giving up one walk in 1/3 inning.

At the plate Reeves Bozeman and Alex Buford led the charge for the Tigers with two hits each. They were followed by Dylan Digman, Jon Harrison, Paul Noble and Mallan Sheffield with one hit each. Buford had the only extra-base hits with a pair of doubles and led the RBI category with three while Digman drove in one run.

In their second game of the day the Tigers took an early 2 - 1 lead but let it slip away as the game went along with Theodore ultimately claiming the 5 - 2 win. Although the Tigers actually out hit the Bobcats 10 - 9 it was their inability to get a key hit with runners in scoring position and a couple of costly errors that sealed their doom.

Alex Buford, who started for the Tigers, was saddled with the loss allowing three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two in four innings of work. Sean Skelton followed Buford to the mound and allowed one run on two hits and one walk in one inning. Taylor Sturdivant came in behind Skelton and gave up one run on two hits, and one hit batsmen while striking out one in 1/3 inning. Rob Anderson then finished the game holding Theodore scoreless for the final 1 2/3 innings while giving up one hit and two walks and striking out one.

On offense Reeves Bozeman, Alex Buford, Dylan Digman, and Paul Noble each had two hits to set the tone for the Tiger offenses while Jon Harrison and Kenny Sanders contributed one hit apiece to the cause. Bozeman and Buford led the way in extra-base hits with each collecting a double. In the RBI category Bozeman and Digman each drove in one run.

The Tigers have a busy schedule this week beginning on Tuesday, March 11, when they play Clarke County at home. Following that contest they are scheduled to be on the road at Sweet Water on Thursday, March 13 and then at Demopolis on Saturday, March 15, for another three team round robin match-up with Demopolis and Andalusia. Tuesday's and Thursday's contests are the second game of a Junior Varsity/Varsity double header slated to start at 4:00 PM. Saturday the Tigers are scheduled to play at 1:30 PM and 4:00 PM.
