Easter egg hunt

The Thomasville Parks and Recreation Department will host its annual Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 22, at Gates Drive Pavilion for preschool youngsters through third grade. The hunt will be divided into two sections - preschool through kindergarten and first through third grades. Refreshments will be served and prizes given in the two ages groups. Children's Easter egg hunt

Christian Fellowship Baptist Church on Tallahatta Springs Road in Thomasville will host an Easter egg hunt for children ages 0 through sixth grade at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 22. Each child will need to bring a basket with his name on it. The church will furnish plastic eggs. On arrival take children to the sanctuary. They will be divided for a short Easter story. After the hunt, lunch will be served in the fellowship hall. So parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters, are invited to stay and enjoy the lunch. Anyone who needs a ride, call Angelique A. Youth nighttime Easter egg hunt

Christian Fellowship Baptist Church on Tallahatta Springs Road in Thomasville will host "Youth Neon and Glow in the Dark Easter Egg Hunt" at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, March 22 for youth seventh grade and up. Each youth needs to bring a basket or bag to put their eggs in. The church will furnish the plastic eggs. All youth should report to the sanctuary upon arrival where they will be divided into teams. Grilled hamburgers, chips and dip will be served for supper. Those participating are encouraged to bring along their friends. More youth equals more teams, which equals better competition. Easter egg hunt

A community Easter egg hunt will be held from 12 noon to 2 p.m., Friday, March 21 at Bessie Munden Recreational Park, 194 Bessie Munden Road in Camden. Children up to eighth grade can enjoy an afternoon of games, coloring contest, fact painting, bunny hop and door prizes. Children should bring their own baskets. The event is sponsored by Tri-County Pearls of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.

Lights of Easter and egg hunt

Sunny South United will observe the second Lights of Easter at the village square, in which those who have gone on before and some who are still here are remembered or honored. Following the ceremony an egg hunt will be held for the children. For more information, or to lease a light in memory of or in honor of someone, call Raymond Norwood, Ethel Parham or Mr. or Mrs. Alonzo Purser before Friday, March 21.

Relay for Life bake sale

The Pine Hill Baptist Church Relay for Life team will hold a bake sale beginning at 9 a.m., Friday, March 21, on the sidewalk in front of the Bank of Pine Hill. For special orders call Patricia Martin at 385-2301.

SWAIA meeting

The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association (SWAIA) monthly meeting will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, at Jackson Steakhouse Restaurant in Jackson. Guest speaker Henry "Hank" Smiley, chairperson of the Southwest Alabama Community Coalition and President of the Clarke County Unit-new South Coalition, will speak on "A Celebrity Roast: Clarke County Mayors."

Retired educators meeting

The Clarke County Education Retirees Association will meet at 11:45 a.m., Thursday, March 20, at the Fish House in Jackson. The program will be on healthlegal education. Also, the nominating committee will present its slate of officers. All members and interested friends are urged to attend.

Beautiful baby contest

A beautiful baby photo contest is being held to benefit the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Photos can be submitted in two age groups: 6-24 months and 25-48 months. Send $10 along with each picture to: Beautiful Baby Contest 315 B Wilson Avenue, Thomasville, AL 36784. Entries must be postmarked by Thursday, March 20. Include: Your name, address, day and evening phone numbers along with the child's name, date of birth and date the picture was taken. Rules and regulations: child must be within age limits as of March 1. Do not include information directly on picture. All entries must be postmarked by March 20. Contest is not responsible for lost or damaged photos. Photos will not be returned unless a self-addressed stamped envelope is included. Finalists will be notified the week of March 24. Three finalists will be chosen from each category. Make checks payable to the American Cancer Society.

Dual enrollment scholarship applications due

Thomasville High School / Alabama Southern Community College dual enrollment scholarship kickoff meeting for 10th and 11th graders was held Tuesday, March 11. Sen. Richard Shelby to visit Thomasville

U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby will join the residents of Clarke County for a county visit at 12 noon, Saturday, April 12 at Gaston's Grill, 33801 Highway 43 in Thomasville.

WCHS class of 96 to visit Atlanta

Wilcox Central High School's class of 1996 has planned a March Madness gathering in Atlanta March 28- 30. The weekend will consists of a meet-and-greet on Friday night at the home of Kenneth Jackson. On Saturday, a host of activities have been planned including tours of various Atlanta sites. The gathering will conclude on Sunday with church services. During this time the class will begin making preparations for its 15th class reunion. T-shirts have been designed to commemorate this event and can be purchased for $16 from Class President Timothy T. Beasley by March 21. Cemetery clean-up

The Aimwell Cemetery Association requests all containers and flowers be removed from the cemetery before April 7. This will allow clean up work to begin for the annual memorial service on April 26. Cooperation and understanding are appreciated.

PHVFD fund-raiser

Pine Hill Volunteer Fire Department is planning to give away a cypress wood nine-hole martin birdhouse on July 3, handmade by Adam Hepstall and his dad. The birdhouse can be seen at area businesses throughout Pine Hill. For information on how to win the birdhouse, contact any Pine Hill Volunteer Fireman or go by the Pine Hill City Hall.

ANON Meets

AL-ANON meets every Thursday night at 6:30 at Pineview Baptist Church (enter door at Moore Street entrance behind church). For more information call 636-9985.

Story hour at the library

The Thomasville Public Library has openings in the story hour programs for threeyear olds and in the K-fourth grade class. Three-year olds' (Reading Bees) story hour is held each Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The K-fourth graders (Dragonflies) meet from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., each Tuesday. These programs require registration, so anyone interested is asked to come by the library.

Homework assignments

Thomasville Middle School and Thomasville High School homework assignments are posted by all teachers each week. They are published by 4 p.m. every Monday for that week.
