How will sale affect jobs at Pine Hill
OUR VIEW
Weyerhaeuser found a buyer for its containerboard operations this week. The buyer, International Paper will be taking over the operations, including Pine Hill, late this year, and of course, lots of people are wondering what that means.

Will there be layoffs from the operation? Considering that International Paper has been aggressively paying down its debt over the last few years and has now just taken on more debt to complete the sale, it's a good bet the company will look for ways to cut costs, and we all know what that means.

The good news is that this purchase is part of International Paper's long term strategy to consolidate its operations into fewer large plants and focus more on the uncoated paperboard market.

If IP stays the course, that could mean good things in the long term for the mill.
