The month of March 2008 has been very eventful for Thomasville Middle School's Scholars' Bowl team. The month started with a trip to Hoover for the Alabama Scholastic Challenge state tournament. Then, on the 14th, they traveled to the University of South Alabama for the South Alabama Academic Competition Association (SAACA) Super Tournament.

The state tournament, which consisted of 32 teams, was held at Hoover High School's Freshman Campus. The teams were divided into four pools. Thomasville faced some of the top schools in the state. TMS got off to a good start with wins in the first two rounds against Sanford Middle School and Russellville Middle School, but then lost five close rounds to Arab Middle, Meridianville Middle, White Plains Middle, Rainbow Middle and Pizitz Middle. Though the TMS overall scores were good, they did not make it to the play-off portion of the tournament. High scorers for the team were Adam Sparks (155 points), Marlee Moore (140 points), and Sally White (135 points).

The Super Tournament at USA was also made up of 32 teams. The first session consisted of 4 rounds. TMS was the 2nd highest scoring team for the first session beating Mobile County Training School 360- 135, Causey Middle 235-80, Spanish Fort 190-130, and Alba 285-100, so they advanced to the afternoon play-off. Unfortunately, TMS lost the first round of the single elimination play-off to Burns Middle School 145-120. High scorers for TMS were Marlee Moore (200 points), Sally White (190 points) and Adam Sparks (145 points).

Even though TMS did not win either tournament, the team was awarded a trophy for placing first in the Alabama Normal Eastern Division Tournament held in Brewton. The TMS overall record for this year is 22 wins and 8 losses. The team had lots of fun this year and has the satisfaction of being one of the top Scholars' Bowl teams in the state of Alabama, and, to tell the truth, that's a really good feeling.
