Lady Tigers move to 11-4

The Thomasville High School Lady Tiger varsity softball team saw their season record improve to 11 - 4 this past week when they won two games at home and one on the road. The two home victories came on Tuesday, March 11, in a 6 - 5 extra-inning victory over the Lady Aggies from Jackson High School and on Thursday, March 13, when they defeated the Lady Bulldogs from Clarke County High School 7 - 0. The lone road win occurred on Friday, March 14, when the Lady Tigers ventured to Sweet Water and handed the home standing Lady Bulldogs a 15 - 5 loss.

In Tuesday's action Savannah Smith ran her record to 5 - 3 when she held the Lady Aggies to five runs on three hits while striking out seven in eight innings of work. The Thomasville offense which picked up six hits in the game was led by Cassie Flint with two hits while teammates Ashley Crawford, Shelby Myers, Savannah Smith, and Nicole Washington all had one. In the extra-base hit category Washington blasted a homerun and Smith slugged a double. The RBI leaders were Flint, Myers, and Washington with one apiece.

Rachel Norris drew mound duties for the Lady Tigers on Thursday and responded with a two hit shutout of the visiting Lady Bulldogs from Clarke County. In addition to limiting her opponents to two hits she also struck out eight in her seven innings of work. With the win Norris improved her season mark to 2 - 1. At the plate the Lady Tigers had five hits in the game with Cassie Flint, Shelby Myers, Brianna Penn, Savannah Smith, and Nicole Washington registering one each. In the area of extra-base hits both Myers and Penn legged out a triple.

Finishing strong the Lady Tigers used a 16 hit offensive attack to defeat the Sweet Water Lady Bulldogs on Friday. Leading the charge with four hits was Savannah Smith while five of her teammates including; Cassie Flint, Lindsey Overstreet, Brianna Penn, Nicole Washington, and Rachel Wright followed with two hits each. Adding one hit each to the total was Ashley Crawford and Shelby Myers. In the extrabase hit category Smith had a double and a homerun while Washington added a homerun and Crawford, Overstreet and Penn all had a double. Smith was also the RBI leader with three followed by Flint and Washington with two each and Overstreet and Penn with one apiece. On the mound Lindsey Overstreet ran her season record to 2 - 0 allowing the Lady Bulldogs five runs on six hits, two walks, and three hit batsmen while striking out five in six innings.

Up next the Lady Tigers were scheduled to play host to the Lady Tigers from Choctaw County on Monday, March 17, and the Lady Blue Devils from Escambia County on Thursday, March 20, before taking a few days off for spring break.
