Lady Tiger JV wins two in Baker tournament

The Thomasville High School Lady Tiger junior varsity softball team won two and lost three in the Baker High School invitational tournament held on Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8. It was a good showing for the Thomasville Ladies who were matched up with junior varsity squads from five different 6A programs.

In their first game of the tournament, played on Friday, the Lady Tiger JV fell to the Mary G. Montgomery Lady Viking JV 7 - 6. Tiffany Drinkard, who pitched the final 2 1/3 innings of the game, was charged with the loss allowing seven runs on one hit and three walks while striking out three. She entered the game in relief of starter Tiffany Baugh who had given up five hits and four walks while striking out seven in 4 2/3 innings. At the plate the Lady Tigers picked up six hits led by Alexis Watters with three, Natalie Washington with two and Mary Beth Nichols with one. Watters had the only extra-base hit with a double.

In game two on Friday, the Lady Tiger JV pounded the Blount High School Lady Leopard JV 18 - 0 in three innings. Tiffany Drinkard, who no hit the Lady Leopards, picked up the win for Thomasville giving up one walk and one hit batsman while striking out five. On offense the Lady Tigers collected 10 hits led by Tiffany Baugh with three hits and Savannah Sheppard with two. Joining them with one hit apiece were; Tiffany Drinkard, JaQuesha Evans, Kaley McManus, Mary Beth Nichols and Psietta Rodgers. In the extra-base hit area Drinkard blasted a homerun while McManus legged out a triple. McManus was the RBI leader with two followed by Baugh, Drinkard, and Sheppard with one each.

On Saturday, the Lady Tiger JV opened up with the Lady Wildcat JV from Enterprise High School and came up on the short end of a 20 - 1 score. In this one the Thomasville Ladies picked up four hits, led by JuQuesha Evans with two hits and Tiffany Drinkard and Kaley McManus with one hit apiece. Both Drinkard and McManus had extra-base hits with each slugging a double.

The Lady Tiger JV got back on the winning track in their second game Saturday, edging the Alma Bryant Lady Hurricane JV 16 - 15. Tiffany Drinkard picked up the win on the mound for the Lady Tigers allowing 15 runs on nine hits, one walk, and one hit batsman while striking out two in seven innings. She picked up a great deal of support from her teammates on offense as they pounded out 18 hits against the Lady Hurricane pitching staff. JuQuesha Evans and Natalie Washington led the charge with four hits each followed by Tiffany Drinkard with three hits and the trio of Sheyenne Myers, Mary Beth Nichols, and Alexis Watters with two hits each. Tiffany Baugh also chipped in one hit in the attack. In the extra-base hit category Washington had a triple and a homerun, Myers had two doubles, Evans had a triple and Drinkard had a double. Evans, Myers and Washington also recorded one RBI apiece.

The Lady Tiger JV's final game of the day went the other way as the Baker High JV Ladies defeated them 13 - 3. Tiffany Baugh took the loss on the mound allowing 13 runs on three hits and two walks while striking out five in five innings. On offense the Lady Tigers picked up five hits with Tiffany Drinkard, Kaley McManus, Sheyenne Myers, Shan Washington, and Alexis Watters all connecting on one. Myers had a triple and Watters had a double for the only extra-base hits.
