JV softballers pick up two more wins last week
By Charlie Anderson Contributing Writer

The Thomasville High School Lady Tiger junior varsity softball team, fresh off a good showing in the Baker High School invitational tournament, picked up two wins during the past week and saw one of their games end in a tie. The action started on Tuesday, March 11, when the Lady Tiger JV defeated the Jackson High School Lady Aggie JV 16 - 2 in a game played in Thomasville. In their second game of the week, which was also played on the home diamond, the Lady Tiger JV and the Lady Bulldog JV from Clarke County High School ended their game in an 8 - 8 deadlock. The Thomasville girls ended the week with a 15 - 6 road victory over the Lady Bulldog JV from Sweet Water High School.

In their game with crosscounty rival Jackson the Lady Tiger JV pounded out 15 hits led by Natalie Washington with four and Sheyenne Myers with three. Following close behind them Tiffany Drinkard and Alexis Watters had two hits each while Tiffany Baugh, JuQuesha Evans, Kaley McManus and Shan Washington all had one. In the extra-base hit category Myers and Natalie Washington both blasted homeruns while Baugh legged out a triple. Myers and Natalie Washington were also the RBI leaders with three each followed by McManus with two and Baugh and Drinkard with one apiece. On the mound Tiffany Drinkard picked up the win moving her season mark to 4 - 2. In four innings of work she allowed two runs on two hits and one hit batsman while striking out four.

Moving to Thursday's matchup with arch rival Clarke County, it was probably fitting that the game should end in a deadlock as neither team played defense anywhere close to their capabilities, leaving their pitchers in a precarious position. Both Tiffany Baugh and Tiffany Drinkard logged two innings on the mound in the game for Thomasville with Baugh the starter giving up seven runs on two hits while striking out two and Drinkard allowing one run on two hits. At the plate the Lady Tigers only managed to get two hits in the game with Sheyenne Myers and Mary Beth Nichols connecting on one hit each. Nichols had the only extra-base hit with a double and led the team in RBIs as well with two.

Wrapping the week up on Friday, the Lady Tigers ended things on a positive note, defeating traditional rival Sweet Water. Tiffany Baugh picked up the win on the mound allowing six runs on seven hits and nine walks while striking out six in five innings. Over on offense the Thomasville Ladies righted the ship again collecting 14 hits. Leading the charge with three hits apiece were; Tiffany Baugh, Tiffany Drinkard, and Sheyenne Myers. Teammates who joined them in the hit parade with one hit included; Kaley McManus, Psietta Rodgers, Savanna Sheppard, Shan Washington and Alexis Watters. In the extra-base hit category Drinkard had two doubles and Baugh and Sheppard had one each. Myers was the RBI leader with three followed by Baugh and Drinkard with two each and McManus, Shan Washington and Sheppard with one apiece.

The Lady Tiger JV was next scheduled to play Choctaw County on Monday, March 17 and Escambia County on Thursday, March 20, before taking some time off for spring break.
