Drama team brings home awards

Excellent ratings winners PHOTOS BY ARTHUR MCLEAN
Under the direction of drama teacher Lisa Newton, the Thomasville High School Drama Club recently participated in a drama competition held in Montgomery. The group brought home many awards.

Students who earned excellent rating pictured (not in order) to the right (top photo) along with the category are: Valeria King - solo musical and solo acting; Webb Knight and Blake Newton - duet improvisation; Matthew Smith - sound design; Paula Fendley - sound design; Katie Simon - solo acting - female; Brooke Nelson - playbill/publicity design; Jenny Ogle (not pictured) - playwriting; Bernard Jackson - solo musical - male; and Vickie Knight - solo musical - female.

Students and their awards (not in order) in photo to right are: Caleb Clardy - first place - playwriting; Shelby Henry - second place - costume design; Nikki Pearson - second place - make-up design; Scipio Tolbert (not pictured), Evander Davis and Ariel Racine - third place - group pantomime; and John Thornton - third place solo musical male.

Pictured below (not in order) receiving superior rankings are: Michael Newton - sound design; John Sims (not pictured) - solo acting - male; Jeff Shewmake - solo acting - male; and Julie Dozier - solo musical - female.

Valeria King was selected to serve on the Alabama Educaitonal Theatre Association Student State Board for the next term and is running for the office of vicepresident.

John Thornton and John Sims have had many callbacks from colleges and universities attending the scholarship auditions.

Shelby Henry, John Sims, John Thornton and Valeria King have been invited to a campus visit and audition weekend at Savannah College of Art and Design.

The entire drama team was invited to attend a spring performance and have a department visit at Troy University and at USA.
