OBITUARIES Richard Brooks Bender Richard Brooks Bender, 51, of Pine Hill, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at his home. Mr. Bender was born May 18, 1956 in Snow Hill. He attended Pine Hill Chapel of The Apostolic Faith and was a former truck driver. The funeral was held at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 6, at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville with the Rev. Mike Brening officiating. Burial was in County Line Baptist Church Cemetery in Arlington. Mr. Bender is survived by his wife, Gayle McGilberry Bender of Pine Hill; three sons, Richard Garth Bender of Arlington, James Joseph Bender of Boston, Mass., and Caleb Brooks Bender of Pine Hill; one daughter, Abra L. Bender O'Brien of Boston, Mass.; five brothers, Hamilton Davis Bender Jr. of Grove Hill, Ronald Lee Bender of Grove Hill, Dee Bender of Magnolia, Daniel Colen Bender of Pine Hill and Dennis Allen Bender of Ft. Deposit; one sister, Barbara H. Pugh of Thomasville; and four grandchildren, Tyler Garth Bender, Austin Joshua Bender, Gavin Peyton Bender and Lily Rose O'Brien. Pallbearers were Adam Bender, Joseph Bender, Tommy Hudson Jr., Jordan Kelley, Jamie Bridges, Kipper Presley, Mike Buchanan and Daniel Fendley. Honorary pallbearers were Reese Armistead, Bobby Dunn, Jim Gregory, Ronnie Nelson and John Wesley Parnell. O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville directed. Mamie Lula Jones Kelly Mamie Lula Jones Kelly, 99, of Linden, died Friday, April 4, 2008, at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Kelly was born Jan. 23, 1909 in Thomasville. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church. She was a graduate of The University of Montevallo and was a lifetime member of the D.A.R. Mrs. Kelly was a homemaker. Graveside service will be held at Choctaw Corner Cemetery in Thomasville at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 12. Mrs. Kelly is survived by one daughter, Lillie Jane McNeely of Linden; one granddaughter, Kelly (Joe) McNeely Bagwell of Silver Creek, Miss.; four great grandchildren, Miranda Henry of Millbrook, Tori Elizabeth Bagwell of Silver Creek, Joseph Wayne Bagwell of Silver Creek, Miss., and Matthew Micah Bourgeois of Baton Rouge, La.; and one great nephew, Sam Mitchell of Gallion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Providence Baptist Church in Gallion. O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville directed. Edith Dixon Thrash Edith Dixon Thrash, 80, of Heflin, died Monday, April 7, 2008, at her residence. Mrs. Thrash was born April 28, 1927 in Dixons Mills in Marengo County. She was a retired educator. The funeral was held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 9, at Dryden Funeral Home Chapel in Heflin with the Rev. James Owens officiating. Burial was in Heflin City Cemetery. Mrs. Thrash is survived by one daughter, Jayne (Roger) Taylor of Fruithurst; two sons, William D. Thrash of Heflin and Robert W. Thrash of Kingston Springs, Tenn.; two brothers, Terrence (Frances) Dixon of Brewton and Jimmie Dixon of Dixons Mills; four grandchildren, Randy Taylor of Fruithurst, Justin Taylor of Fruithurst, Emerline Thrash of Kingston Springs, Tenn., and Hilary (Russell) Harris of Cummings, Ga.; and one greatgrandchild, Walker Jackson Harris. Mrs. Thrash was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow B. Thrash; and one brother, Harold Dixon.
