Sen. McCain is coming to Thomasville
From Staff Reports

Sen. John McCain
Arizona Senator and presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain is expected to make a stop in Thomasville, April 21.

Thomasville Mayor Sheldon Day said McCain will participate in a round table discussion with local citizens at Alabama Southern Community College and may also visit Thomasville High School to talk to students there. Some news outlets are also reporting that McCain will visit a local lumber industry, but the schedule for McCain's visit has not been set. He will be visiting in the morning before heading to a fundraiser in Birmingham.

Day said he is excited the candidate agreed to visit Thomasville. "We tried to get him to come to the supplier conference last year, but he couldn't come," Day said. "We'd sent his office information about Thomasville, including copies of The Thomasville Times' progress issues and his people were very interested and receptive to the idea."

"I am extremely proud and grateful that Senator McCain has chosen to come to Thomasville," Day said. "He is somebody who cares enough about rural America to come and visit and listen to our citizens." Day said he hoped that the visit could help the fall presidential campaign focus on issues that are important to rural America.

McCain visited Demopolis in 2006.

"This is a win-win for Thomasville," Day said. "There will be a lot of press here when he comes."
