Can't buy happines, eh?
And lucky for me, someone's done a study that says yes, money can buy happiness. But the anti money folks are trying to poke holes in the report. I think they're asking the wrong questions anyway. I think the questions should be more like, "how much time do you spend worrying about how you're going to pay your mortgage or rent?" I think the results then would be much more enlightening. And any study is bound to find those few people you just can't please, no matter how much money they had. You've got those folks who can buy you and me put together and they spend all their time worrying that someone's going to get a dollar up on them somehow. And sure, there's some folks who are happy as pigs in slop no matter what they have. A former coworker of mine was happy as could be as long as the truck was running, the fish were biting and the trailer wasn't leaking. Then there's a whole bunch of people who are just going to lie about things. Some of the rich folks don't want to gloat or give the poor folks reason to get mad, and some of the poor folks don't want to give the rich folks the satisfaction of knowing that yes, they really are better off. So I wouldn't put much stock in any of those wealth and happiness surveys. Challenges I have a history of looking for new challenges. To quote someone else, "there's always another mountain." But sometimes we get faced with challenges we never saw coming. It's all part of our growth as human beings, I suppose. Over the past few months I've been able to rise to a number of challenges with my photography, and it's been interesting that as the lower hurdles get cleared, new ones come into view. Maybe ignorance is bliss. Had I seen them all coming when I started out on my new ventures, I might have said "no way." But now that I'm I the middle of it, I have to push through and learn how to deal with these new challenges. I've interviewed a number of people over the years who only half jokingly said they got into the thing they were doing because they didn't know any better. It's true, I think if most of us knew all the obstacles beforehand, would we have taken on some of the things we've done in life? Maybe not.
But it's all a learning opportunity, and maybe if we're on the right track, we're where we need to be and learning what we need to learn and it'll all come around to us at some point down the road.
